The L Head four is the same basic block but with a taller head and has clearance issues with the flat fender hoods. See the subsequent CJ-3A High Hood for Willys remedy until the CJ-5 redesign (with some carry-over in model years). Technically the F head 4 will still fit in a flat fender but top draft Carter carb will hit the hood. A side draft carb or a hole in the hood will \"make it work\" but as @DENWERKS states below, This example is what it is, and is very, very nice as such. Plenty of old mismatched Jeeps out there for engine swaps. The \"Go Devil\" suits these trucks very well and doesn't lack much oompf compared with its younger brother. This is a lovely Jeep and it's just great for us old '50's - '60s Jeep dorks to linger over. SO many mods out there and so little time... Stick with the basics.
