However, a minor correction: the color keying has only been applied to the bumpers and plastic lower cladding trim and air dam on this particular car. In 1986, bumpers would have been black and the bodies were all single-color. The two-tone paint jobs were only offered in 83 and 84. The window frame surrounds are still the original dark gray or black color. \n3) this 1986 still retains its plastic license plate surround piece. It was only installed on late 85 and 86.\n4) this car has some extra badging in the C-pillar vents and on the front fenders. \n\nA few identifiers for various GTV6 bodies. Not comprehensive but a good overview: \n\n1981: no mid-line plastic trim as original, body color window frame surrounds, no 2 tone paint, early style seats and interior, large square \"script\" hatch badge, small Alfa round badges on grille and upper hatch, Campagnolo Elektron wheels, silver bumpers. \n1982: nearly every one was silver with blue interior. Same body arrangement as 81 though. \n1983: early cars tended to keep the silver with blue interior, late cars had a mid-line wide plastic trim piece and a 2-tone paint scheme, and introduction of dark window frames. Very last 1983 got the later style interior with mesh headrests and later fuel injection (sometimes called a \"California\" 83). \n1984: 2-tone paint continues. You might be able to get a replacement tach with a correct needle off of Ebay, but when this happened to me in pre-internet days, I sent it off to Palo Alto speedo to be fixed.\n\nMany people have painted the plastic parts in body color. However, it is difficult to prep the surface of the plastic, and these areas tend to flake very easily. \n\nI have had a number of these cars over the years, and found them to be very reliable as long as ham-fisted owners and mechanics were kept away. I would not hesitate to drive mine across country at a moments notice. The drive train rattled when sitting at idle when stopped at a red light when in neutral with the clutch out, the fit and finish of the interior was terrible, the engine started burning oil at 5,000mi. After a tear down under warranty at the dealer, it was reveiled that that Guiseppi had left out piston pin caps on 4 of the pistons and the\r\ncylinders became scored. Several water pump replacements. Alfa finally bought the car back under lemon law. I will say it had the quietest manual sunroof-you could drive 70mph and the hair on you head would not move and when you squirted the washer it all went to the side.
