I guess a bit about the car and it's condition to start. I Purchased this car with the intent to build an autocrosser and part time track car. Got the car home and began building it out as intended - never actually driving it after I picked it up. In addition to all the items in the listing - I also added a Race Chip brand tuning chip. Maiden voyage - she seemed okay but then about 1/2 way through the run group she went into limp mode. I tried one more time (you turn her off and back on and everything is fine) - same thing. Called it a day after the 2nd time I went out for safety reasons. On return home - I took her to an independent Mini/BMW dealer for diagnosis. They did preliminary inspection and found the race chip harness melted -which they repaired (assume I routed it incorrectly). They indicated the ECU might have shorted out which was causing the issue. For the record - the intermittent error code has to do with a mass air plausibility issue - which in turn causes her to go to limp mode as I under stand it. Replaced the ECU and did some testing on the fuel pressure sensor. Even after ECU replacement - still doing it. Took it back to them a 2nd time - more testing but couldn't pin anything down so I decided to go to a more focused Mini shop that \"hot rodded\" mini's to see if they could troubleshoot. Trailered it to Detroit Tuned in Michigan. Their initial diagnosis was a defective ECU and they worked with the prior shop to facilitate a warranty replacement. Rec'd call that they couldn't replicate the issue after replacing so thinking this was good news - authorized the tune on the ECU as well as new tires and corner balancing. I did test drive (city driving) in Detroit before I took here home and things \"seemed\" ok. Got her home and after an extended test drive - problem back (or never went away). Over the next 12 months I would off and on attempt to fix - new MAF sensor, bypass O2,countless hours on the internet trying to figure out what could be causing the plausibility issue - with no definitive answers. So - after paying 12K for the car and spending 6K on wheels/tires/exhaust/Bilsteins/ECU/Tune/etc... - and $4K in labor - @LuvBrit Cars is correct - I guess I'm giving up on her. I reached a decision that I just couldn't justify putting any more money into her. And trust me - it hurts! but you have to stop somewhere, right? My luck someone lucky buyer will get it and do one or two things and wala! In choosing to repair her - you'll start at much less of a price point that can warrant putting some money in. And again - day to day driving you'll never notice - but put her over 4000 RPM in 5th or 6th under load and she'll go limp. This was a beautifully built Cooper S when I purchased it at 16k miles. Drove it everywhere and dominated at Autocross with it. As I purchased it, it had a stock ECU with the factory optional JCW tune that bumped output to 197 hp and the redline to 6750 meaning it could hit 60mph without needing to shift to 3rd. The previous owner to me was a big Mini guy, and built this car up as a project. He was meticulous and used only Mini parts. The interior was converted to full GP spec with rear seats deleted as it would be from the factory, even the mounting brackets were removed. GPs did not have rear speakers as the strut bar interfered with them. He purchased all of the correct interior trim pieces to exactly match a GP. The rear wing is also from a GP as this Mini has had the full GP aero treatment. The rear wing is bonded to the glass, the guy that built this car attempted to add a rear wiper but broke the glass as GPs do not have rear wipers. In the spirit of the build, he wanted it to be as close to correct as possible, since he couldn't integrate the wiper, he used a Convertible wiper stock to match that of a GP which didn't have a rear wiper.\r\nOther than the rear wiper and no rear speakers, all items functioned exactly as they would from the factory. The radio still works just you only have front speakers.\r\nI'll dig out the documentation, this car has over $30,000 worth of Mini original parts installed on it between the GP and JCW upgrades. I'll try and describe what's happening. Granny (or even moderately spirited) driving - never an issue. never. Scenario one - your tooling along at 70 mph in 5th/6th gear and give her a lot of pedal (no downshift - leave in gear and just press gas pedal). She'll accelerate and around 4000 RPM she'll dump into limp mode. Turn her off and back on - she resets and everything is back to normal. For whatever reason - the issue is at 4000 rpm. Car is legal in Indiana - we don't have emissions inspection (reminder - I installed a cat bypass). That said - the original CAT will come with the car and I have the original exhaust that will go with the car if so desired. the exhaust on the car currently is a 2.5\" dia Miltek system (ECS tuning Part number ES#2827812 - again, brand new). note that the cat bypass outlet size is 2.5\" as well - but the original exhaust is 2.25\" (or 2\" can't remember?). Point is - if you are putting the original cat back on - you'll need to either adapt to the 2.5\" pipe (any muffler shop can do) - or swap back to the original exhaust.
