In looking at the original service stamps in the book, this was a real driver right out of the gate, accumulating over 100k miles by 1974! Which explains the tired motor that expired during the cross country trip to the current owner in 1976, and how it ended up with the 2.8 Liter in the late 70's built by Bob Hindson Racing, a shop with deep ties to the early US racing campaigns of 914's. Also want to point out you can see the surface rust at the front edge of the chassis pan in photos 149 and 150 in the gallery. There are no holes (from rust) in that area. This 914-6 makes all the right sounds, and drives well. @thetwistyroad, the Recaros are remarkably good. If you're super tall, they might not give you as much room as stock, but they're comfy and have good support.
