Given that it definitely needs a chassis, its current condition is not a bad starting point. I know that there is a contingent that thinks every sportscar must be repowered with a V-8 or something modern, but a big charm of this car is its engine note and the Twincam is able to make it go quickly enough to exceed the skills of most drivers, particularly because you don't need to slow down for corners. What you're buying here is a pile of parts in very poor condition and a body that doesn't look too bad except for the hideous flare work that needs undoing, a difficult task. I don't know about restoring costing $100k unless you're one of those who pays a shop to have all of the fun; I'd guess that's a multiple of the real cost, but it's safe to say that a pre-restored one would be cheaper than this car. This one is for the challenge, and I hope it goes to someone who wants a restored S2 rather than a ratmobile. \r\n\r\nThe references to corrosion are no doubt about the re-bar sill reinforcements that provide stiffness to the sides of the car, these need to be cut out and new ones glassed back in. As they corrode, they swell up and make a mess of the surrounding bodywork. A job, but much less effort than those wheel arches are going to be and not awful when the body's off. Could I have reduced that number a lot? For sure!. But we ground out every gelcoat crack, and cut apart and reglassed both doors to correct the ever-present poor fitting from the factory molds. A good fiberglass paint job is $10k AFTER the bodywork, which is substantial here (all wheel arches and sills.)
