Absent the actual VIN data plate the next best thing to try and confirm is the frame rail or body number. I can not recall if the frame had been replaced at that time or it was too badly rusted to find a stamping, but the body number on the firewall did fall in line with the known twin cam coupes that would have placed this car as 594. The correct body number and title paperwork indicating the 594, I think that may be the best possible evidence that this car is or was indeed what it is stated to be. However, as @TDR states, there will always be debate as to what makes the car the car...the frame, the body, the majority of the parts? I know of a significant race car that was in a wreck and had to have it's chassis replaced. The remainder of the bits, body/engine/interior all transferred over. Does that make it a different car? Up to ones interpretation I imagine. I also know of a couple folks who had NOS frames from dealerships, so frames were definitely something replaced on rare occasion due to bad collisions in the day. New chassis are available, I have made several of my own that were easily stamped with the serial number of the original chassis and it matched the English log or U.S. title.
