I found it difficult to find a good, dry one that was in mostly original condition. Due to the fact that I have not owned a Jeep since my 1994 (in 1996), I may be in for a rude awakening when I receive the one I bought without seeing it first. The last CJ I had was a 1985 CJ-7 in 1990 and it was relatively uncivil. It is destined to be a beach car so I think it will be fine. The one I bought is a one owner with 28K miles and all original except for some very minor dealer add ons. Despite so many having been produced, high quality examples like this one ought to fare well in the future as they have in recent years. It is set up to be easy to tow, It's primary use for me in the past 20 years has been a quail hunting rig and I towed it . It has a wiring harness that allows you to plug it directly into your trailer connection so the CJ's tail & brake lights are used for the signals. The full floating rear axle allows locking hubs, so no worries about the transmission. Just unlock the hubs and head out!\r\n\r\nThe front hubs are a unicorn, I had the folks at Warn custom build me the automatic front hubs. Warn producted automatic locking hubs back in the 70's for later model axles. They are cool becase they activate on the front axle signal for immediate 4WD & you can manually lock them as well. Manually locking overcomes the one deficiency of the automatics, no compression braking.\r\n\r\nThe combination of the 33\" tires, 4.88 gears and the overdrive really makes it a true dual purpose vehicle. The aux tank fills the main tank via a switched electric fuel pump. Yes the filler is inside, CJ5 owners are fireproof! The fuel gauge does not work, the sender is fine, but those cluster gauges are run through a voltage reducer set that are problematic. \r\n\r\nAt one point I had the temp gauge connected to the aux fuel tank sender and both gauges acted as fuel levels. Standing on my head to work under the dash does not have the appeal it used to, so when the transformers failed I didn't fix it. A couple of hours with some vinegar and a scotchbrite pad would eliminate 95% of what you see in the photos. It's spent 50 years here in the desert, (Ohio is lovely, but I never drove the Jeep there) the only salt it's ever seen fell off the rim of my margarita!\r\n\r\nThe frame and floorboards are 100% intact & original. You can see in the underside photos, the original paint is still there, never hidden by undercoat etc.\r\n\r\nI replaced the brake master cylinder about 5 years ago (have receipts) and flushed & bled the system then. The shoes were all replaced when I did the front drum upgrade.
