The 818R. Factory Five's first new idea. This is not just a kit car. This is very sanitary, beautifully made, race car. It is as good as anything that was built in England, or Italy. Look at the aluminum fabrication from FFR. Just gorgeous. I was reading how they now use CFD to build their new cars, and parts. 3D Cam as well. This 818 certainly shows off their excellence, and pride of workmanship. Very nice to see in the Good Ole USA! Watching the videos, this sucker corners FLAT! It is very stable under braking. The Subaru powerplant is WAY more than what's needed to move this lightweight racer. And speaking of Subaru, there must be an endless supply of totaled WRX/STi/Imprezza's around the country. Brilliant decision by FFR to design a car using these engines, and suspensions. I actually have been reading my new Factory Five Catalog I got about a month ago. I REALLY like the 818C. It has a look, and stance, that makes it look mean. And it is pretty. This 818R has 1,000 miles on it. One race weekend at a time! I would call that WELL sorted. I am not up on which class, if any, this car can be raced in. It almost dosen't matter though. Take this 818R to any track for a track day, and have at it! Overall we run about the same lap times. His car is faster in longer sweeping turns while mine is faster in quick transition and tight turns. But they're really close. It's a hoot to swap cars ! When I first got in his I thought it was going to roll over but then the suspension settles smoothly at turn in and the grip increases as it loads. Mine just grips right away but probably has less slightly less mechanical grip in reality. A suggestion to buyer: you might want to replace the intercooler with an air-water intercooler. Kits are available from Very Cool Parts and others, and they aren't too hard to install; snaking the lines to the radiator is the trickiest part. \r\nThe reason is that the Subie intercooler mounted above the engine doesn't get the clear unimpeded flow of air in the 818 than it did in the WRX donor, so the charge doesn't get cooled, leading to several known instances of detonation leading to engine failure. \r\nIn any case, good luck to buyer and seller both. States do allow for kit, or home-built cars to be registered. The process is different in each state. Having a car that already carries another states VIN could help, or be meaningless.\r\n\r\nYour best bet? Look up a local Cobra club. Those guys always have the rules well sorted. In most states, there's a special form, and maybe an appt with the motor vehicles dept, or special inspector (BAR & CHP here in CA). There's also little things, like D.O.T. glass, and wipers which some states require. But that shouldn't deter a buyer. Often times these rules are easy to accommodate. Clip on, marine wipers pass inspection, and are removable. D.O.T. glass can be sourced, mounted, and removed. \r\n\r\nMy usual caveat - I'm not a lawyer, you buy at your own risk. But I've seen 818 builds with plates.
