It's dirt prowess is the stuff of legend, with unbeatable traction, and it earned a reputation as a giant killer in road race endurance events, able to slice and dice with the best. At the time, Bid D was the local Triumph dealer, and I had them check the compression and other things. Small and light, but very punchy and takes a specific starting procedure and strong leg to get it started. Not to mention getting gas on your hand when you tickle the carburetor. (Although I guess that wouldn't be the case with the Mikuni on this one). \n\nI remember the first time trying to start one of these. I falsely assumed that it was like every other old bike including my A65 Lightning. I hopped right on, went at it, and nearly felt like I broke my ankle on the second kick. Losing the huge oem muffler, turn signals and battery may be a good thing. Clutch, compression release and frt brake levers look oem to me. Although speedo is off brand, easy enough to change to Smiths oem. Orig SS tank was steel. MX seat would have an alum base as opposed to steel on a SS. \r\nMik carb is period correct mod, and an improvement.\r\nThis isn't a bike for someone who wants original spec, since the chassis and engine are from different models. It's a bike for someone who wants a better SS, i.e. faster and lighter, that's set up for all roads, paved and dirt. It also had the larger alloy tank with yellow cross but had silver foil Triumph stickers instead of BSA. Round number plate/side covers. It is numbers matching. Built after BSA was killed in 1972/3. They were pretty much using up leftover and service parts to get bikes out the door.
