I have a NYS title, registration. BaT advised. I purchased the car as a toy in 1984. Added modifications each year. Kirby Palms \"The Book\" was used as a guide. Print copy goes with the car. I did most of the modifications with the exception of transmission mount fabrication, machine work , welding and paint. The mount was done by a competent race car fabricator. When I purchased the car, first area addressed was the forward floor area footwell. This is a double walled design which captures moisture. Was redone immediately, followed by a paint job soon after. Prior to offering the car on BaT, the floorboard area was again addressed. I took the car back to the same shop that did the repair 34 years ago. The fellow that did the work then now owns the shop. We had a good laugh over this, commenting where has the time gone. Inspection encouraged to verify this work. Preparing for the auction, 34 years of receipts were reviewed. The pain job price was less than the price of a gallon of paint for another vehicle recently done. \r\nMy shop is climate controlled. The car has rarely been in rain, used as a toy. When I bought the car, the goal was to modify it. Kirbys book had a lot to say about the cams. I even checked out what Tullius was doing. So, first iteration was using Crane cams for the Jaguar V12. Truth was- no improvement. I complained to someone at the SCCA runoffs about the lousy cams in my 12, and was introduced to Dimitri Elgin. Direct quote as I recall was \"I will build you a cam you will love.\" So, the arrangement was made, and wow, did he deliver. He discovered the cam cores offered were bent. Then he custom designed a profile, which was , well, magnificent. Full documentation, detailed explanation. Frankly, the car pulled like a locomotive. I never used second gear around town. Still don't. So genius boy here decides to adjust the valves after a few years. Reinstallation - cracked one of the cams. Went back to stock, as traffic and old age won again. Car still pulls like a less powerful locomotive, ok in today's driving environment. The one good Elgin cam goes with the car,along with all the cam data. \r\nI want to thank you for asking, as I have been waiting years to tell that story. Vintage Jag Works in Idaho just completed the replacement of the Borg Warner 3 speed automatic with a Doug Nash/Richmond Street 5 speed manual, and is in the process of replacing the 5.3 liter V-12 with the later 6.0 liter version that was only available from 1992-1994 after which the XJS was discontinued, replaced by the XJ-8. I can't give you my impressions yet of the results (we plan to to do a 5 day rally from Santa Fe NM later this month), but I think the combination of the 5 speed Douglas Nash/Richmond transmission and the upgrades to the 5.3 V-12 make for a very hot car. I also like some of the other mods, but it seems like the cosmetic condition has been somewhat overlooked/neglected. The tires, Nitto NT 500Z ZR4 , 245/45 ZR16, may be seen in the photos. They appear to be in good shape, as the climate controlled environment and limited mileage show no cracks or dry rot. This is no excuse for not replacing them every six years. They would not be suitable for a 1000 mile trip. There are also additional reasons for not driving it home. BaT is a concept for bringing a trailer. There are eight crates of parts plus two seats which accompany the package. The spare is the original 15 inch wheel with different lug nuts, and inappropriate for any long distance. This spare package has been checked out with the tool kit and lug nuts which also goes with the car. The buyer should allow enough time to go through the eight crates of parts and keep what will be relevant- all or part. Includes most original components such as automatic transmission shifter, center console hardware, steering wheel, original instrument cluster, used camshafts, and much more. Mostly bulky items, takeoffs, and junk. Original lighting, quad headlights might be of interest. The fuel system has a dash control to increase or decrease injector time 10%. See round knob on right side of center switch panel. There is an a/f meter located in the lower left footwell, toggle switch selectable with the switch near the meter. 80's technology- doesn't work very well, but led's change anyway. Photos show an under hood fuel pressure indicator-adjustable fuel pressure and reading. The original V12 setting timing required running the car on a lift, and using crankshaft markings under the car for reference. I recalibrated the pulley for both banks, and the timing may now be set from above.
