Getting everything on the car working is important to me, such as the vacuum operated headlights, air horns, headlight warning buzzer, seat belt light etc. I am happy with upgrades that are reversible and do not change the appearance of the car from its original look.\r\n\r\nSome background on the car and work completed on the it.\r\n\r\nCar sold new; California October 28, 1972.\r\n\r\nI purchased the car on BAT in October 2022 in a disassembled state with the engine machining work complete, brakes re-built and suspension bushes replaced.\r\nThe car has original paintwork (other than the fenders) which has some blemishes but no major cracks or scratches. No evidence of accident damage or repair. \r\n\r\nVacuum operated headlights functioning. The vacuum will hold the lights down for several hours.\r\nOriginal Maserati air horns fitted and working.\r\nEngine rebuilt with +0.030\u201d bore, new valves and new bearings.\r\nWeber head fitted. Big Valve heads were shaved an additional .040\" to increase the compression ratio. Look at the exhaust side & you can see the areas in line with the exhaust ports are barely machined at all.\r\nAlso, if you look at the compression test numbers the seller achieved 150 psi, compared to my compression numbers of 165-170 psi. I have taken mine to the top of Mt. Evans, at 14,265 ft., gone over 110 mph on Talladega Speedway, to the top of Pike\u2019s Peak at 14,115 ft. and then, with no tuning changes, down to sea level to Sebring, Florida and back home to Colorado a distance of 4,465 trouble free miles.\r\n\r\nI took her to Northern Minnesota and the start of the Mississippi River then all the way to New Orleans on the Great River Road, and back home to Colorado Springs, over 4,400 miles when 50 years old. In 2021, I took her on a little drive to the four furthest corners of this country; Key Largo, FL, Madawaska, ME, then back home before heading to Jalama Beach CA, Cape Flattery WA and back home via a circuitous route through South Dakota. This trip measured 11,544 miles and she never hiccupped, overheated or failed to start all the way around the country. I love this little overachiever as it \u201cpunches well above its weight\u201d and is the purest sports car I know.\r\n\r\nThis lovely Sprint is the culmination of the Elan series, with updates from Lotus to make it even better than my S2. And the seller has added all the things that make it fully usable in today's traffic. I would do all those trips in this one without hesitation. The Sprints are my favorite. You could stick me in two cars, an ordinary S4 and a Sprint blindfolded and I could tell you which one was the Sprint. I know they are the same size, shape etc....but there is a subtle difference. I bought my first Sprint in 1986. Kept it till the mid 90's when I sold it to Bill Rabel up in Seattle. Bought it back in 2004 and drove it cross country back to Buffalo. Sold it and bought it back 3 more times finally ending up with Tom Smith in Houston that put it back to the same original color as this one. I think it is now with a new owner in Philly. I found another Sprint and although I let some friends initially buy it, I now have it.
