One of my many uncles had one of these, in the same year that was baby Blue in and out, with a mean sounding V8, but a manual shift on the floor. Because I was only 6-10 years old at the time he owned it from 59-65, I don\u2019t remember much more in detail. But I remember many trips with my uncle and cousin camping up in the N. H. White Mountains. Plus any other adventure closer to home, was an ongoing project we helped him on, that was building a retaining wall in their back yard, that is still standing intact to this day 50 years later! But to build the wall we would both go with my uncle, his dad, to the RT 295 Interstate Highway being built in northern R. I. , that was the site of a lot of dynamite blasting of all the hard granite rock in the area. So on weekends we would go fill up the back of that old Ford Country Squire with assorted sized granite rocks, from small 10\u201d diameter to the size of a breadbox. I bet those loads weighed in the area of at least 1/2 to 3/4 of a ton! I know my uncle had beefed up his wagon with bigger leaf springs and bigger HD tires. But we would drive home about 10 miles with the rear bumper just inches off the ground. So I have many fond memories of older wagons, as my dad had them also, it was a sort of competition between my dad and uncles. My dad had a very nice Oldsmobile F85 V8 wagon at the same time, but the next wagon he bought was a real beauty, that I grew up driving later on. That was a 1968 Chrysler Town&Country, that my dad special ordered after my third sibling was born. He ordered it with a 440 Commando 4 brl Dual exhaust loaded maroon with matching interior with the vinyl wood graining sides. That wagon was a real beast! That I had done some real crazy stuff in! Like off roading and high speeds, I had the car going so fast The speedometer needle went past 120, all the way into the clock passed the speedometer to 3 o\u2019clock!!! Previously, if you wanted 1st gear, you had to \"select\" it by moving the selector to \"L\" vs \"D\". The Trigger Torque feature was a switch under the accelerator pedal, so that if you floored the accelerator, the switch engaged a solenoid to force the transmission to go into first gear. As you back off the gas, the transmission will shift up through the gears as normal. Ford 3 speed Cruise o matics startedout in 2nd until the selectshift autos came out around 66, I believe. I know my 64 Lincoln Convertible had a 3 speed quadrant that had a P-R-N-D1-D2-L quadrant where D1 would give you a second gear start, and D2 would give you a first gear start.\n\nRe tires, our car is white over red, with a black top. I've installed the new Coker bias ply style radials with the whitewall option. Also, our car never had skirts (and it had whitewalls when new). \n I'm very pleased with the improvement that the radials bring to the table vice the older bias ply tires that used to on the car. \nPerhaps an argument could be made that the more pedestrian models would have come with blackwalls, but hey, when you're talking about a Sunliner or a Country Squire, you're looking at the full zoot package, and whitewalls would be desirable, no necessary, on these showboats.\n\nListening to the engine start up, I was thinking those solid lifter valves could use an adjustment.......\n\nAlso, the exhaust note on these old Y blocks is wonderful. The factory exhaust is a true dual, the left side never intersects with the right side, and this gives a nice \"rap\" to the sound when accelerating, a nice vintage sound.\n\nGood luck with the auction, I loved the backstory of the car, it's too bad it has to leave the family, though. It's purely a matter of the downshift link rod, which under full throttle gives maximum throttle pressure and accomplishes the low-gear start.\r\n\r\n@Ringo2244 - not necessarily so. I still have the original 6V radio in my '55 Customline. The polarity change doesn't matter, and the voltage is easily stepped down with a stock '56-'57 coil ballast resistor. (the radio happens to draw the same amperage as the stock ignition). It's been working that way for over 30 years.\r\n\r\nI love this wagon. I've owned my two-tone Pine Tree Green over Neptune Green '55 since 1965. Same interior color as this wagon. Pretty iconic colors for the 1950's. Good luck with the sale, lwebster.
