If you were to get this Lotus, nearest dealership is in St Louis.....but if you get a Lotus Elise (which is what I got) -- then you are in great shape because BOE Fabrication is in Overland Park! They are one of the best (If not THE best) Lotus Elise shops in the world and I assure you they know a hell of a lot more about the cars than the dealerships. When I first got my Elise I took it to the dealership in St Louis and there were some things I wanted done that they simply would not do. Since then I've taken my car to BOE a couple of times and those guys are incredible. I'm even having them install a supercharger I bought for it for me in another couple months too. \r\nAs for this particular Lotus for sale -- while I really like the V8 twin turbo V8 Esprit's -- that rear wing is ugly and that doc fee just pisses me off and those pictures pretty much suck....I would just pass on it out of principle and find a different one. Not exactly a common car - but there is always 1 or 2 for sale in the USA if you hunt around. I do like the color of it and the mods are nice (apart from that stupid rear wing of course) - and it does have pretty low miles on it. I took the wing off too. Peter Stevens revised the Esprit shape in 1988, then I think someone else touched it up later. Mine sounded mean with wide open pipes but surprisingly not that loud because of the turbos. I prefer the old Toyota taillights myself. They are decent cars, and pretty simple. Lots of GM electrics so it wasn't bad to work on. The wheels on this car here are the ones that come on the later model. The steering wheel has been changed...they come with an ugly plastic one from a Camaro I think. I never had a problem with the transaxle. I think that problem is blown out of proportion....if you use good Redline MT90 fluid and just drive it normally, you should be fine. Anyway the entire test drive went over like a fart in church, all because of that darn gearbox. It really took some getting used to, but unfortunately the test drive didn't last long enough. Shifting was very notchy and hard to find the gears. It made me feel like I never drove a 3-pedal car before. I understand improvements to the original linkages can be made, but it's tough to find guys who know how to do it properly. We basically never hit the mileage threshold and you CANNOT tell how much life is left based on any inspection. If you want to be safe, replace after 3.5 years. Feeling lucky? Push it out beyond 4 years. There is disagreement if extending that interval is ok with those improved design blue belts mentioned by at least one other person. \n\nTo that question about servicing options, I am only 100% comfortable driving mine the 5 hours to northern NJ (RS Motorsports) from upstate NY for anything other than a required NYS inspection or my own DIY routine fluids.\n\nQuite comfortable for me (5' 9\", 155 lbs) even for long trips.\n\nCan't imagine ever selling mine. There are also plenty of indy shops that are familiar with Esprits. Local owners are easy to find and will know where to go and what's available. That said, I service my own. The factory manuals are widely available and surprisingly detailed and well written.
