I am representing the owner of this little blue Mog. It's the first one I have been up close and personal with so I do not possess the encyclopedic knowledge of many who follow these pages. As such I welcome those folks to help me explain the nuances I would surely overlook about these cars and how they were equipped and have evolved over the many years of continuous production. \r\n\r\nThe car offered for sale was rescued in 1990 out of Washington State, moved to Oklahoma where it went through a lengthy period of restoration after which it changed hands, moving to Texas in 1998 where it was enjoyed and then refreshed and repainted in its stunning Periwinkle Blue finish in 2011. Current ownership acquired the car in 2016 and hasn't driven it 300 miles. No matter how fond the memories and how many boxes it checked off his bucket list at his size and and stature it just doesn't work for him and knowing the importance of these old car's need to be driven he has elected to move it on. That's where I come in.\r\n\r\nNormally when I'm engaged to market a classic car its because the current owner has quit using it which means there is usually a list of things that needs to be done to get the car road worthy and market ready. Well this Mog is an exception to that. Other than bringing out my expert PDR guy for one little ding it needed nothing to make ready for sale. It is good to go.\r\n\r\nI have driven the car about 80 miles including on the interstate and can say it rolls down the road perfectly. Yes, like you would expect of a 1960 Morgan it has a pretty stiff suspension but it steers and stops very predictably and the torquey little 4 cylinder suits it well. It ran cool and drama free in the Texas heat. \r\n\r\nNeedless to say I am impressed with this car. In fact the only thing more impressive than actually driving it was rolling through the parking lot of a glass building and seeing myself driving it. Wow, did it make me look good! Nothing looks like a Morgan.\r\n\r\nI'm sure there are a few things about these cars I will not be able to answer off the top of my head, but will do my best to find out. The current owner is monitoring the auction and will relay any answers he feels he can contribute as well. It is indeed an unusual color, and one that takes on different hues depending on the light. Wikipedia defines it as follows:\r\n\r\nPeriwinkle is a color in the blue and violet family. Its name is derived from the lesser periwinkle or myrtle herb (Vinca minor) which bears flowers of the same color. The problem is likely corrosion in the cylinder, so it won't seal itself. Note that this Morgan has a period correct single brake master cylinder, so if you lose fluid, you will lose the brakes (being, for real, @nobrakes), front and rear. For some reason, this is always a surprise, so...\r\nTo protect life and investment, please don't drive it until you sort out the brakes with a proper servicing , including replacement of the rear wheel cylinders and a fluid flush and replacement. This is not expensive, nor especially time consuming service. \r\n\r\nRemember, it is better to be @nobrakes, then have \"no brakes\". \r\n\r\nMany Morgan owners have replaced this old system with a more modern tandem master cylinder that handles front and rear brakes on separate circuits. I have cars with either system, but I pay very close attention to the condition of my wheel cylinders, master cylinder, fluid levels and fluid age on my cars that still retain a single brake master cylinder. \r\n\r\nOn another comment... No, I don't believe that Morgans suffer from termites, unless your garage suffers from termites, and even then... Morgan wood is not that tasty to termites. However, rot can be a problem. You can drive them in the rain, but like most older British (and just about every other car made from steel) rust and, yes, wood rot can be a problem if the machine can't properly dry out. This car appears to have very nice wood, and seems to have had a thorough restoration many yers ago. This is not really much of a \"detail\" (and if you want to see something cool, take off the strap and look at the lovely lines of the body. I have thought of taking the thing off my \"lowline body\" +8). What is most interesting is that this '60 Morgan is all about the hand fitted wood framing beneath the hand hammered coachwork. Not really an assembly line vehicle screwed together with air tools. Building a Morgan at the factory level requires specific skills from each worker to fettle each part into position, not unlike a skilled restorer. \n\nIronically, this means that the car is easily rebuilt, and most parts are available, especially those disposables used in maintenance. Parts can be reproduced much as they were produced in the first place, and most of the little parts, such as the side lights, switches and instruments are available and/or serviceable. There are lots of shared British parts on Morgans. \n\nThe dash doesn't appear to be original, but the car does show some care in its restoration, and careful use over the years. This is an easy fix for the purist. \n\nThese TR powered +4s are fun to drive, and had excellent performance compared to their contemporaries (MGAs, TR3s, Healey 3000s). They are light in weight, and the buttoned down suspension allows for the fabled \"4 wheel drift\" sort of handling. They can also be pretty good autocrossers. While antiquated in design (the sliding pillar front end was the \"bee's knees\" in 1912), the whole thing works pretty well as there is enough power to make it all interesting. \nThe Morgans are honest and direct, all feel and nostalgia, imparting a sense of occasion with every drive. It is like owning one of the great Classics, but without the silly expense and extreme valuation. That said, they don't make them like this anymore, and values have been increasing steadily. \n\nAlways liked that blue. [I asked Nobrakes who is helping with the sale of the car whether to give any of the back story to this Morgan, and he said 'sure...that's what makes BAT a special website'...so here goes...] So the story of coming to own this Morgan started around 1963 when my oldest sister had a date with one Jim Downing who pulled up our driveway in Atlanta, GA in a British racing green Morgan complete with leather strap over the 'bonnet'. He took me around the block. [see Jim Downing in Wikipedia, co-inventor of the HANS neck restraining system and a long time SCCA racer; his family owned a large sports car dealership full of marvelous cars, the fifties and sixties were unbelievable car times...]. Well, right then at age 16 I promised myself to own a Morgan one day...and you know how that goes. 55 years later, 45 years of marriage, educating 3 boys, 6 grandchildren later, I mentioned just one time to my new buddy Cromer who happened to collect 'old cars' of my long dead dream of \"owning a Morgan some day\". It was just a side comment. Well, Cromer started sending me listings, which were interesting, but the cars were all safely in Florida or Arizona or Connecticut wherever, far away from Texas, and not particularly eyecatching anyway for some reason. [I test drove a 1983 or so with think a Ford engine, not particularly appealing, and the gears seemed hard to find]. Then this periwinkle blue Morgan popped up, only a few miles up the road in Rowlett at Red Car Restorations where the then owner's family had had the car maintained. Evidently quite a bit had been spent restoring the car, you can see from the original condition it had been found in, in Washington state. So when I turned the corner into Tim's shop in Rowlett, this little jewel was shining there in the bright Texas sunlight, chrome wheels sparkling. This car inspires love, imo, in its coloring and classic design and handling. Well, I ended up buying this little periwinkle Morgan [didn't know what to call the color at the time, my artist wife had to inform me what a true periwinkle was, it was a custom mix by the then owner for his wife who is on the title given to me...]. Turns out that down in East Texas, it seems very few know what a 'Morgan' is much less heard of one...wherever I might stop, traffic light, get some gas, darndest thing, it'd attract a crowd. People would ask 'what is it', 'is it a Ferrari', 'can I sit in it'[unfortunately, no was the answer], 'what color is that', 'how fast does it go', 'what's a \"Morgan\"'. Ranch hands in pickups would follow me to get a good look, or momma with kids hanging out the window asking 'what is it'. Kids at a gas station who'd never ridden in anything other than presumably a pickup truck or beat up Kia, I'd have a hard time gently telling them how to not touch. So I'd patiently explain what this object from a far galaxy was. Main thing were the smiles the car causes. [ Never, ever had a car do that, not that the cars I've owned would have been expected to ]. Meanwhile, back at the golf course/lake community where we now live, there's a twisty loop section about 2/3 mile around, and think I ended up over time giving 3 wives of my buddies a short ride about that loop after they'd ask me 'what is that car'? Nothing demanding upon the car, just smoothly pulling around its hairpin at about 20 mph and downshifting and accelerating out of the turn [like my old 1963 Volvo B-18D with the two Weber side-draft carbs and I'd pretend it was a Porsche...] the ladies would laugh and love it. My buddy Cromer came up to me after his wife had had a short spin, and said, \"you know, I been collecting cars for forever, and there's never been a car I've collected that my wife really enjoyed riding in. She goes for one short spin in that thing [i.e., the periwinkle Morgan], and comes in and raves about it\" [think I got correct most of what he said...]. Well, this saga has gotten too long and needs to end, I hope it finds a good home, and whoever ends up buying this little jewel will help bring continued smiles into the world. But it is not my first experience with the Morgan community.\r\n\r\nAbout seven years ago me and a buddy began flying from DFW to SFO renting BMW touring bikes from an outfitter in Mountain View for a week of two-lane exploration in Northern California. That is when we discovered the perfect base camp in Quincy, CA which sits at about 3500 feet up the Northern edge of the Sierra Nevadas in Plumas County. \r\n\r\nHere, there are arguably three of the best roads for motorcycles and sports cars in NorCal, each take you from Quincy to Oroville and back. There is the super-fast and stunningly beautiful Feather River Canyon Highway and the more technical Oroville to Quincy Highway and the outrageously twisted Quincy LaPorte Rd.\r\n\r\nWe landed upon a great little motel called the Ranchito, which has since become our regular go to accommodation in Quincy (EAST Quincy to the locals). That first year, upon arrival just before dusk, the first thing we see is Morgans. Morgans on Main Street, Morgans at the gas station, Morgans literally littering the place. There were at least six Morgans in the parking lot of our motel. \r\n\r\nQuincy had become Morgan City. \r\n\r\nThere was a powerful Morgan Aero 8, driven by a silver haired person of substance accompanied by a drop dead gorgeous young navigator and a silent running chase van carrying their essential touring accouterments. There was a ratty old Morgan whose operator\u2019s well-worn leather jacket was only bettered by his Plus 4\u2019s own weathered upholstery; its top seams sealed with frayed edged strips of duct tape, his frumpy old duffel and a 5-liter jug of Castrol GTX secured by bungee cords to the spare tire. And, there were seemingly Morgans and Morgan owners of every other variety and state of being in between.\r\n\r\nDuring my days of academia, I developed a philosophical theorem that along a continuum, at either extreme, is where ends meet. Decades later I find empirical evidence to support it in an old gold miner\u2019s town halfway up a mountain in the middle of a high-country forest. I will say that this is a great car. This is probably one of the more thorough and reasonable restorations I have seen on a Plus 4 to make this a great driver and a fantastic looker. It is really a beautiful car and the photos do a good job of representing the stellar shape of this car. Originally I wasn't sure about the Periwinkle Blue, but the paint really does look good in the flesh, with only a couple of minor chips in hood places that you would expect that don't detract from the car at all. The dash looks great, and really compliments the car. Mechanically it was in wonderful shape and should make a great driver. Whoever gets this car needs to drive it as it is evident that the car really hasn't been driven much since the restoration work. It is something I would have liked to have added to my stable. \n\nThe only thing that didn't work for me was the fit. Although I have always loved small cars, and have wanted a Morgan for a while, my 6'4\" frame does curb what I can comfortably own. I've driven newer Morgan's and they are always a bit tight, but this one could have done with an extra inch or two for my legs and knees. That is unfortunate.
