Great photos too!", "likes": 8, "timestamp": 1724855317, "type": "comment"}, {"id": 15405063, "authorName": "AlexKean (The Seller)", "authorUrl": "https://bringatrailer.com/member/alexkean/", "bidAmount": 0, "content": "Hello everyone and welcome to the auction!\r\nThe colder seasons and weather are rapidly approaching us here in the northeast, so now is the perfect time to sell my winter car and scramble to get one before the white stuff hits the ground right?\r\nI always like to start my question with an opening about the car and an attempt to answer some would be questions, here goes:\r\n\r\n1.How I got the car\r\nI bought this car from a small dealership in Carlisle that was going out of business. The car had been used as a personal car for the owner and had ultimately done a lot of sitting and hadn't been sold for many years. Eventually the lot and stock were liquidated and this is when I found it. I saw the car in passing on the way back from a long distance parts run, and had always wanted specifically a pearl mica/black SVX and the fact that this car was a pretty rare wing delete and also a fully optioned up LS-L that was free of rot was extremely attractive to me. The car needed a bit of work to get back on road confidently and all of that servicing is documented above. \r\n\r\n2. The Manual Swap \r\nThe timeline basically works out that I owned the car for one year as an automatic, and the next as a manual with ongoing work to improve it. \r\nThe automatic failed in spectacular fashion in February of 2023 on my way to work in the middle of the Squirrel Hill Tunnel, and if you're local and familiar with Pittsburgh, I'm sorry, and you probably just shed a tear. The car had performed flawlessly up until that morning with 0 signs of failure and all of a sudden it went from 2nd gear to neutral and then proceeded to have 5 neutral gears. \r\nThe shop, Top Notch Automotive, is my go to shop if I can't handle something myself. They've done 2 engine swaps for me and are responsible for the first manual swapped D2 Audi S8's in the country. I full heartedly trust them with whatever I need them to do so this was a no brainer. \r\nThe basics of the swap is as follows: \r\n\r\nTY754VBBBA 4.11 Legacy GT 5-Speed\r\nMatching 4.11 rear differential/ring gear\r\nLegacy GT pedal box (Factory accelerator pedal retained) \r\nFactory SVX LSD retained\r\nModified factory transmission crossover\r\nImpreza Brake Booster and Master\r\nCustom 3\" solid driveshaft made by Pittsburgh Driveline\r\nLUK Clutch & Flywheel\r\nWilwood Clutch Reservoir \r\n\r\nOf course there was a **bit** more work involved than just that to make this all work but the final package really transformed this car from just a weird Subaru that was nice to drive around, to an extremely unique SVX that's not only fun to drive, but really made it the car the SVX was always meant to be. Id be happy to wax lyrical about the improvement to the next owner but the short of it is, it got WAY quicker, more engaging and feels so much smaller.\r\nTop Notch is extremely familiar with the car and myself and I'm sure will be happy to continue to tend to the car for whatever it may it for years to come. Because we did a lot of testing and it didn't officially get billed out until earlier this month this car carries that shop's 12mo/12k mile warranty. \r\n\r\n3. The Paint\r\nThe roof and trunk are showing some signs of fading, I've used a rotary buffer to keep it in it's current state but I don't think any amount of buffing will make it perfect. It's extremely presentable as is and even made an appearance at the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix earlier this month. There's a small fade spot on the front right corner of the hood, it is pictured in the gallery. \r\n\r\n4. The AC\r\nI am happy to demonstrate this to the next owner or if someone stops by to look at it during the auction week, but the blendoor arm gets stuck in the heat position. This is very noticeable because it's HOT. Usually it can be unstuck by just giving the motor arm a push while the temperature has been decreased, but because of it's location to the upper left of the glovebox it really can't be done on the go from the driver's seat. Best to lay on the passenger floor and give it a nudge. I've greased this arm but it gets stuck occasionally. It's also worth noting that this car has not yet been converted to R134a yet, I'm sure it's been recharged at some point of it's life but it is still running R12. The car was primarily used as my winter car so I was more concerned with the heat and not the cold part of the equation otherwise I would've had it converted. \r\n\r\n5. The Rust Bubbles\r\nIf you know SVX's and Subarus this will not be a surprise to you, especially at this age and mileage. The spots are small and the metal behind them is still very sound. It has not gotten any worse during my ownership and is very much in the paint bubbling stage and nowhere close to rot. As seen in the underside photos of this car, it's incredibly rust free and the majority of the reason I decided to buy it. \r\n\r\n6. The ABS Light\r\nDuring the swap the right front ABS wheel speed sensor was broken. We tried to find a replacement for the SVX but at the time were unable to locate one.\r\n\r\n7. The Key Fob\r\nI swear this was working a week ago, fellow BaT member @Pghvdubguy had a go in the car last Tuesday and I demonstrated just how cool it was that it was working. Maybe the battery went flat, I'll investigate! I hope I can get it working and a video uploaded. \r\n\r\n8.Whine off throttle. \r\nSometimes when off throttle, there's a faint whine, which sounds exactly like gear whine in a straight-cut gearbox car, albeit much much quieter. It is not present on throttle or during 95% of driving. Top Notch thinks this is because of the solid one piece driveshaft and having shed the more flexible factory style 2 piece driveshaft with rubber insulators/guibo. They've assured me it's not from the trans or the rear differential. \r\n\r\n9. The other modifications\r\nI have everything to return the car to stock and and happy to perform this task for the next owner if they wish. As I've stated above I purchased/created this car to be my perfect winter fighter, and it was modified accordingly for that job, but if a factory looking manual swapped SVX is what's called for I am happy to oblige. \r\n\r\nOverall/Why I'm selling\r\nThis has been a very cool experiment and experience for me. I've always liked the SVX as a do everything GT but was so saddened by them never being offered with 3 pedals and am happy to have created and experienced one. Ultimately, this is the perfect SVX for an enthusiast to actually ***drive*** and enjoy. This is a driver's car now, and it deserves to be enjoyed. It's not perfect, but it's in great cosmetic shape and will present wonderfully, but also provide many more miles of guilt free tobogganing, road tripping, or just commuting. \r\nAs much as I enjoy the car it's become too small for what I need my next winter car to be. I often haul a 1 year old around and a rear facing car seat in this thing is just too tight, and found myself driving my RWD XFR more, which sort of defeats the purpose. We're also currently a family without a utility vehicle, so I will be on the hunt for a Land Rover Discovery II to accomplish all of my upcoming needs and all of the proceeds from this auction will be going directly to that search. I really hope an enthusiast that loves to drive wins this car, It's such a joy, and I'm sure the few who have manual swapped SVX's will agree. \r\n\r\nAs always I will be immediately available to answer questions and show the car over the coming week and am excited to talk to you all!
