My wife saw the look in my eye and immediately changed the passwords on all bank accounts and took my credit card. \n\nNow this 99 T project. Sure, it needs a proper restoration, but what a fun project! Interior is decent, and that original front spoiler can be saved. Of the 18 SAABs I've owned from those 95s, through a pile of 99s, a 99T, another pile of 900 Ts , a POS 9000 CSE, and currently two 9-3s, the 99 Turbo stands out as a milestone car. None have been as ostentatiously seductive at the 99T. Crazy fast for its time. In your face styling on a tree hugger brand. Practical enough to move a small sofa. The 2-door 99 seemed to pivot around the driver's H-point and around town driving it had great sight lines and went where the driver was looking.\r\n\r\nThe other memory is the worse the road conditions became, the better the SAAB became. Years ago, I met a gorgeous UCLA law student who drove a 1989 Turbo. Between her and her car, I was powerless to resist. 30 years later, and quite remarkably, she is still my wife. Less remarkable was the departure of the Saab after a catastrophic transmission failure at 37K miles - yep - just outside of the 36K mile warranty period. The car was never abused, and dealer maintained. Trans case (which is integral with the engine) simply cracked. A carefully worded letter from two young husband and wife lawyers yielded a bit of a price break on the repair, but not much. I drove a fleet of 50's and 60's Alfas and a brace of Sunbeams - none of which were restored, and all of which had many, many miles under their belts. When an expensive, nice new car fails at 37K miles, and your old beaters keep getting you back and forth to work and on fun weekend drives, it is not hard to say good bye to the expensive nice new but unreliable new car. Or rather I should say it gives a lot less trouble since apart from the chill-cast process and the addition of a fifth gear it's the same gearbox but in the 900 it's bolted to a stronger engine in a heavier car so tends to be more highly-stressed.
