It was stock except for low bars and K&Ns. This factory paint scheme is/was gorgeous; the best of the three IMHO. \r\n\r\nWhen out on the test drive, figured I'd wick it in first gear to see what all the hubbub was about with these things. When it came on the pipe, the front end came up, my left hand flew off the handlebar, and via either skill, divine intervention, or maybe both, I didn't crash it. I made damn sure after that to always be holding on tight upon application of heavy throttle. It was stupid-quick with this then 5'7\" 135# pilot on it, and it had that exhaust note like nothing else, except another Kawi triple.\r\n\r\nOn the minus side, it had serious high-frequency vibration, minimal cornering clearance, mediocre brakes, and it got 21 mpg. An original issued rear tire (photo #13) is super rare to see these days. There was no center groove and it was quite dangerous on wet pavement. The next year (1971) all Mach 111's came with the K87, it has a central grove in the rear tread. \n\n\nI've owned my 69 H1 since 1976, married one year with our 1st baby on the way and a new teaching job. Somehow I did not kill myself, although I did come close, as I piloted that rocket 15 miles to school every morning. At 23 years old I was in love with that bike. It blanked the roadway behind me with a blue fog on cold NY mornings. I flat-out wore it out after 10 years and 35,000 miles of thrill rides.\nAs I write this, that bike is being restored. Likely scenario was owner not filling auto-lube tank early in life of motor. After catastrophic failure, owner has dealer repair which could have been a whole new motor. Take out motor probably went into a Honda ATC 10 years later (that will be on BAT eventually) after it was liberated by one of the dealer mechanics from a scrap pile. Or in the case of this triple, the twke out motor may have traveled a few miles on 280 to 92 to 880 and ended up at Denco where Nicosia did something with it. It does have the switch visible in photo 28\r\n* The paint is remarkable and original as the bike was stored inside in mild climate its whole life\r\n*I repacked the steering head bearings as I was keeping the bike original. The bearings and races are not pitted, just had old grease\r\n*The photos of the pistons were taken in February 2023. The engine was first run Dec 2023 and has only been started twice since the late 70's\r\n* I do not know if this is a replacement engine or just the cases. The registration slips dating back to 1970, (photo 154,155) do not show an engine number. When it went through the California VIN verification, the officer said it probably did not have a number when first sold on November 6th, 1969.
