This soiree had been in the works for a long time.\r\n\r\n@PDXBryan provided the organic appetizers and selections for the jukebox. @ShineOn sprang for the fine linens and plated flatware. @dominator brought French cheese and delicacies, all served by Rocky in her finest black and white maid\u2019s costume. @HairlessB29 backed up an old Peugeot wagon full of the finest offerings from the Bald Bomber cellars. Somehow, even though he drove all the way from California, the Peugeot still only had 54 miles on it. It\u2019s a miracle.\r\n\r\n@SchoenBus is directing traffic out front, helping each car find its niche (if there is one). @RoyBoy61 is seating people as they come through the front door. Hard to tell from where I sit, but it looks like he\u2019s accepting tips for tables closest to the open bar.\r\n\r\n@JTLake is mixing himself a tall Kentucky bourbon and eucalyptus with one hand and helping @KiwiinAussie throw some shrimp on the barbie with the other. @CULLYSBRO is in talks with my agent in hushed tones in the corner booth as @Keviha walks in with what looks like a gift-wrapped coffee table book under his arm. Could it be?\r\n\r\n@eddiedout pulls up in his latest BaT acquisition with @volvoned rising shotgun. They are both having a hard time getting the smiles off their faces.\r\n\r\nAs if there isn\u2019t already enough activity, an \u201988 Lincoln Town Car pulls up. Looks brand new. (At first I think it\u2019s my lawyer, but then I remember he drives a \u201949 Dodge truck.) The last time I have seen this much Pastel Adobe and Sandalwood I was on a mountaintop outside Santa Fe, up to my armpits in peyote and looking for the lighter I had just dropped.\r\n\r\nA young couple gets out of the Lincoln and makes their way in. Nobody recognizes them, but they are obviously on a mission. They make their way quickly to the bar, and then over my way.\r\n\r\n\u201cWe\u2019ve driven all the way to Fort Stockton just to meet you!\u201d the dude exclaims.\r\n\r\n\u201cWhat?\u201d I reply.\r\n\r\n\u201cWe don\u2019t miss a story that you write.\u201d his better looking companion volunteers.\r\n\r\n\u201cYou\u2019re kidding, right?\u201d\r\n\r\n\u201cNot even. This trip has been planned for months, just in hopes of meeting you and being able to shake your hand. Bought this Town Car just for the trip.\u201d he says.\r\n\r\n\u201cWe feel like we know you. Very few weaknesses mechanically. The 5.0 leaks at the rear of the intake manifold because they had a tendency to suck the cork gasket into the lifter galley. The steering gears needed an occasional reseal and the power steering pumps would pretty regularly leak from the shaft seal but none of those things is particularly difficult or expensive to fix. Great to drive, easy to work on. This the last year before they went to the next generation in 1990.
