Above 80 MPH, the car gives a steady ride and feels utterly stable. Turn a curve, and the SC400 reminds you it's a heavy car by exhibiting mild understeer. Yet, it's a manageable amount that never becomes obtrusive. In fact, on particularly winding roads it's impossible to toss the SC400 apex to apex without keeping total control. If the back gets out of line, just ease off the accelerator and the Lexus regains its aplomb. Overall, the Lexus SC400 is near a perfect coupe. It has ample power for most situations, and its handling characteristics allow most drivers to play amateur Grand Prix driver without sacrificing comfort. I own the identical car in the same color. Bought it with 50K miles in 06, and it has 115K today. It is my DD and has been extremely reliable. Just did the timing belt/water pump last year with no problems. I made the car into what it should have been from Toyota right after I purchased it. Added all Supra TT suspension components (shocks, springs, swaybars), and Supra TT brakes, rotors, and wheels. I also had a custom SS dual exhaust fabricated and it sounds like a V8 should. It rides, handles, and looks like a new car, but looks a lot better. And with about 300hp, it's no slouch in the power department. The car weighs about 3700 lbs, which is a lot less then the newer performance cars with the same horsepower. I recognize my bias, but these really are modern classics that can be driven everyday and will go 250K if properly cared for. If the price stays down, I may put in a bid myself! I love this car. I wouldn't let go of mine for under $15K. Maybe unrealistic, but i can't think of a better car for the that kind of money. We took deposits for incoming cars (you couldn't actually order a specific car from Lexus in those days) from then through the summer of 1991. Every single car that we were allocated was pre-sold when they rolled off of the truck. When a car arrived the top customer on the list had 24 hours to take take delivery of the car or it went to the next customer. In forty years of selling cars I've never witnessed a hotter selling car, it was truly special. The only problem that ever occurred while the car was under warranty was the 10 disc CD changer in the trunk that I believe was a Pioneer unit tended to jam up. Long term the only consistent problems were the somewhat complex door hinges that were designed to open the door outward at the front of the door and back causing the doors to sag and sooner or later the door panels cracked at the top. I had one good customer who loved his so much he had me basically restore it every 100,000 miles. In the beginning Lexus refused to offer one in \"Fire Engine\" red as they thought a non metallic red wasn't sophisticated enough I guess.
