My Dad bought one new when we lived on Long Island. Winter of 1974, I was driving home in a snowstorm on the Wantaugh highway and was sitting at a dead stop when I was squarely rear-ended by a skidding LTD wagon doing about 30 mph. The impact destroyed the front end of the LTD and rendered it un-drivable. The Caddy's trunk popped open and the massive rear bumper probably moved inward a fraction of an inch, but otherwise there was no visible damage to the Caddy. I learned to drive on a '72 SDV and I owned a '72 CDV a few years ago in similar shape. Agree with earlier comments to leave it single exhaust but its missing its resonator. Adding the resonator will quiet it further and it will sound like it should. Too bad, the incorrect grain vinyl top was installed but more important is it has its original leather in great shape. American auto manufacturers had the most durable leather seats in theses years. The clock has been replaced with one from a '73. Same size and shape as '71 and 72, but '73 switched from numbers to Roman numerals. That 472 would burn rubber around the block! He had nice trucks (SS350 he bought new in 92, still owns today) and he inherited the Caddy so he used it as a daily driver for construction work. He loved the motor and figured he would use it in a project vehicle at some point. He parked it in an empty lot, kids broke the windows but it still ran. He sold the lot and the new owner had it towed despite his promises not to. Tow yard wanted $1500 or something crazy for a rusted out car with broken windows and he laughed and told them to keep it !
