With the help of the late, great font of Jaguar lore, Karen Miller, I did manage to elicit some sales data from Jaguar Cars/US (as it was at that time). The XJS 5-speed manual sales breakdown was:\r\n1993....101\r\n1994.... 71\r\n1995.... 4 (perhaps left over 1994s?)\r\nFor a total of 176 such XJS variants. They were unable to provide the data split between XJS coupes and convertibles. \r\n\r\nAs I dimly recall, there were some drivability issues with the early 5-speed cars. Jaguar had difficulty getting the emission control systems to meet the then-current US federal specs, when combined with the manual gearbox. The compromises made to achieve compliance had an impact. Perhaps that was a reason for the limited sales (it was all a bit \u201cexperimental\u201d). I am the owner of the XJS that Velo-Che referred to in the comments. I have owned mine for almost 2 years and find this version of the car the way they should have been made. These versions are fast running cars. You will be on the freeway and without knowing will be cruising at 90 mph. Also, some of these cars came with the sport suspension option which includes Bilstein shocks. I have also added front and rear sway bars for almost no body roll in corners. Once you learn the proper pressure for the power steering, these make great canyon carvers. Parts for these cars are still available. However, it is worth it to course out a spare master cylinder for the clutch because, they are no longer available and the current stock is low. However, there are places that can rebuild them. Over the last 2 years maintenance has not been difficult or expensive.
