I see the debate rages on concerning PS/PB. I will say that over 10 mph, non-power is a wonderful drive, power not so much. I do have a couple of questions/comments for the seller:\r\n\r\n1. How much of the floors were replaced? I see what looks like a ground down weld bead on the front edge of the passenger side floor. This is usually caused by a leaking (rusted through) cowl. Have you tested the cowl integrity (the old garden hose test works well)?\r\n\r\n2. Is the clutch linkage stock (Z bar) or was it updated to cable? I can\u2019t tell from the pictures, but the cable is a better set up with the T5.\r\n\r\n3. The interior and exterior GT trim is all bolt on and I doubt it was factory, however it is well executed and IMO adds to the overall appeal. Also, with the A-code engine in the vin, no one should really object too vigorously.\r\n\r\n4. The things people don\u2019t like about the tidy engine bay are really easy to change to your liking. While the original A-code is a nice engine, this crate engine is far superior for unleaded fuel, better performance, and longevity. Also, pretty much all of my observations will be based on personal experience \u2014 I own a 65 factory GT Convertible about whose provenenace I have a lot of confidence. \r\n\r\nFirst, about the data tag... it is for sure a repo from Marti. Unless he is provided with the information from the original, he pretty much accepts whatever information the owner gives him. Based on that, I\u2019m skeptical about the build date of 19U (August 19). There are a couple of reputable owners of databases containing registries made up of information submitted to them by owners of the registered vehicles. Yes, it is possible that owners can lie, be mistaken, or otherwise misstate/misrepresent the vehicle that they register. Given the number of surviving 1965 Mustangs (about 21000, approximately 16000 of which we\u2019re produced at the Dearborn plant) in the most extensive registry, it\u2019s fairly unlikely that very many \u201cincorrect\u201d vehicles are contained there. So, some amount of reasonably accurate extrapolation is possible. For this car (produced in Dearborn), there\u2019s an inconsistency between its build date (19U) and its unit number (772437). By extrapolation, 772437 was built on or about July 26 (the build date of Unit 772362). Continuing with the extrapolation, registered cars with build date of 19U have unit numbers starting in the 795888 area \u2014 more than 23000 units produced after 772437. Does it matter? Who knows? Just a tidbit to maybe chew on...\r\n\r\nAs to the GT-ness of the car... As has already been stated, lacking a sales invoice or buck tag or build sheet, it\u2019s impossible to say with 100% certainty whether or not a specimen is a factory GT unit. Every feature of a factory GT can be faked \u2014 even the reinforcement plates under the rear seat can be purchased now. But there IS one feature that is extremely difficult to fake, and that\u2019s the reinforcement plate inside the rear frame rails, which prevents the frame rail being crushed by overzealously tightened bolts for hanging the exhaust tail pipes. But even THAT can be faked by a really good restorer who is capable of and willing to remove both rear frame rails, insert the reinforcement plates in the rails, and weld the rails back in place without the weld job being detected. So, how do you know if something that you can\u2019t actually see inside the rails is actually present? Two ways. First, in the trunk, there are holes (usually covered by rubber plugs) on the top surface of the frame rail. If you stick your pinky inside the hole and reach it toward the front of the car, it should encounter a vertical barrier 1-2 inches forward of the hole. No barrier = no GT. This test can also be performed from UNDER the car. There\u2019s a hole on the underside of each frame rail. Use the same finger test, but this time probe toward the REAR of the car. The junction accepts 3 brake lines: the rubber hose, the left-rear wheel brake line, and right-rear wheel brake line.
