Original surface corrosion is common on trucks that are in the Northeast or by the ocean, so where was this truck originally from? Waxoyl is a mixed bag - some people swear by it, others like me in experience seem to think WD40 is just as good. I never used it on my Series IIA, but on my BMW 2002 and it had mixed results. Because the oem NAS step bumper hitch bracing reduced departure angle, it was not popular with hardcore off roaders. Checkerplate doesn't really change the lines of a Defender, but it does change the look a bit. It is common to stand on top of the fenders to access the front of the roof rack. The sills take a beating in normal use, so can also use the protection. Because of its size and weight, the 90 is considered more capable off road than a Disco or Range Rover, but gives up a lot when it comes to on road features. This model is the last Defender sold in the U.S., and the only one to have AT. The key to buying a used Rover is how well it was maintained since new.
