It is not on this car, which is why you can see openings under the glove compartment.\r\n\r\nThis radio is not the correct radio for this car. The W111 Coupes and Cabs had slimmer radios that were the exact same height as the rectangular clock. (Ask me how I know - I purchased a replacement for my W111 only to find out it was for the sedans!)\r\n\r\nThe ash tray looks like it might be from a different car. The reason I say this is that Mercedes was very careful to match the wood grain across the dash from the same piece of wood. It doesn't look like the ash tray matches the glove compartment door. \r\n\r\nAll of these are small items in the scheme of things...and all are fixable if someone wants to spend the time. They were bright H4 and H1 bulb lenses, not the inferior sealed beam units America got. In my experience the Euro stacked headlights outperform the German market one piece design. \nThis '64 has the word OEL on the oil pressure center gauge, which is another clue as to its possible European origin. KM speedometers were switched out, but rarely was the center cluster replaced. \nUS market cars had 'bullet' front turn signals between the grille and headlights, wether their absence is due to the new fenders or it being a Euro model is unclear. This car has the correct early style side mirrors, and rare to see one on the passenger side. \nThe older snapshots of this car show that it once had 1968-on US DOT side marker lights. Perhaps this was to complete the '280se look' which would explain the later hubcaps and the included 280se badge. People often updated older cars to look like the latest offerings. \nThe 2.8 motor requires an external engine oil cooler affixed to the side of the radiator, the pictures are unclear if this is present. The starting point on this car was very rough and therefore the builder had a blank canvas. A pile of money was spent to put her back on the road. With the benefit of hindsight, and the fact that this car isn't and won't ever be an \"original\" car, I would have had a newer Mercedes V8 and auto, with the included ECU and catalytic converters off of a donor wreck, installed. As stated by others, there are some detail issues which are hard to ignore, such as the missing chrome strip on the dash and the incorrect red horn pad. Chrome trim pieces for these cars are hard to find and stupidly expensive. For example, the chrome strip on the top of the front window, which is attached to the window itself was missing one side of my 220SEb. After an exhaustive search, I found one new piece. It cost over $500. As is, this car can be driven and enjoyed for decades. The fellow who did the restoration was extremely picky. So on several occasions he would complain about the finish work on things like chrome relating and paint. He had the chrome redone twice and sent the car back twice for minor imperfections about the correct orange peel that the car should have to appear it was as it came from the factory. So it was never a major issue with glaring flaws or bodywork. It was about the finish. I believe he finally had them sand and repaint the entire car before he would allow the final assembly. But the floor-mounted 4-speed manuals are somewhat rare and mostly in Euro cars (as this one appears to be).
