Naturally, I found the 1992 GTI and immediately told her to buy it. These hold an amazing amount of stuff when you flip the rear seat cushion forward and then fold down the rear seatback. Rear seat is comfortable for passengers. The teardrop wheels always looked good to me. I would not hesitate to buy this one. Granted, they may not amount to anything these days, but back in '91 they were a big deal.\n\nPerformance aside, I think the long term value of Original 16V's is likely to be much greater than 8V's, if for no other reason than it was the 16V that you couldn't afford back then, and it's sure as hell the one you're finally going to buy now that you're 50;)\n\nBesides the close(r) ratio transmission, larger front brakes, leather steering wheel, revised cluster, different badging, dual exhaust tips, and MFA that the 16V always had over the 8V, the '91-'92 GTI 16V's got the Recaro seats, 2 piece BBS RM's, wider fender flares, and rear disc brakes (16V's always had rear discs, but they were deleted on the late 8V's).\n\nSignificantly though, the late 16V's were not just 8 more valves. They were 2.0 liters, not 1.8, and had a much more advanced, if less reliable, engine management system in cis-motronic.\n\nMost of these differences have been obliterated due to all the engine, brake, exhaust, wheels, and interior swaps. After all, it's the same chassis underneath. But when looking at all original cars the difference between the 16V and 8V is significant in '91-'92.\n\nBeautiful car seller. Great job stewarding it through the 2000's which saw the demise of so many MK2's. I prefer Tornado Red, but Montana Green is widely regarded as the best and most coveted MK2 color. I have tried to keep the look Stock, with the exception of a Zender rear wing (a subtle cool spliler, supplied by the orig. owner). It has TSW Stealths, the orig BBS wheels almost certainly were bent. Most were. \r\n\r\nI am saving my pennies right now to give it a proper new paint job and replace that headliner. It sagged until I had to rip it out. The styrofoam is luckily (mostly) intact. Knowing I won't find (cannot) a replacement board, I will duct tape the portion that snapped off. I hope that will work prior to a interior guy puts some new material on it. \r\n\r\nLast year I added KW coil overs, all new every little suspension item (bushings to tie rods to cv joints) was replace and the front rear sway bars are neuspeed.\r\n\r\nyep, it has the stress bar, too. The Momo Race steering wheel. The polished Momo shift knob. I added a Neupeed shift kit with weight bar. Shifts way better than stock. \r\n\r\nI don't think I can sell it. I feel I am a part of this car. The sound. The feel. The handling (ESPECIALLY) after these mods. It is pretty near perfect. \r\n\r\nIt has 188k miles and I don't think I would think twice about a new motor install when the time came. \r\n\r\nStill need to have a factory 16v key cut that has been sitting in plastic package for over 12 years now. Some VDO gauges added (trying to figure out where to put them?). \r\n\r\nRemember the little light you could plug in the lighter that swiveled around?
