This morning was an exception. And as a former Inka '73tii (w/sunroof) owner, revisiting my muse and best friend, (aka \"Orange Julius\") was a treat, despite the square taillights. \n\nThis is a lovely car and the restoration appears (from half a world away) to be of exceptional quality. I particularly like the attention given to the body creases just above the knee trim. (These areas are often obliterated during paint prep - particularly aft of the rear wheel arches.)\n\nThose correct 5j x 13 ET 28 alloy wheels - five in all - are AFAIK, NLA. These look nicely redone, although I'd refrain from clip-on weights. \n\nThere are a few details that irritate and/or confound me, however. The front bumper is crooked (as was mentioned). The vertical supports for the hood are visible through the grill slats. Please paint those black. The factory used a brush, but rattle can with careful masking will suffice.\n\nThe flag style mirror was introduced in 1975 and not 1974. No big deal.\n\nThe front apron (under the bumper) is missing the factory applied body schutz. That is not a problem in and of itself. However, images of the front wheel wells indicate there is a wire running through a hole just behind each headlight leading to - I suspect - the turn indicators. The hole is not present in that location to perform that function. That hole is for a 41mm cable holder (part number\t61131353662 (also NLA)). It is installed behind the grill just behind the headlamp to secure the wiring. The turn indicator lamp wire *should* run through a tubular (approx. 6\") grommet (part number 63138654175) and is joined to the wiring loom behind the headlight through a hole punched in the side of the nosepiece. It's length spans the void in the wheel well between the turn indicator bucket and back of the headlight. It keeps moisture, dirt and debris from accumulating behind the turn indicator lens and also away from the back of the headlight.\n\nThe only reason I bring this up is because - during the reassembly of one of my my project cars where the nose was replaced - I found no way to either utilize the tubular grommet in the manner for which it was designed without drilling an additional hole in the bodywork. When my 1969 2002 broke down while on a trip to Cleveland from Grand Rapids, they were instrumental in getting it back together in less than a week (transmission).\n\nBMW was not a big seller in mid-Michigan, nor was their parts network particularly reliable. I suspect if there were troubles with your tii it was related to either the hard plastic injection runners or lack of technical expertise in tuning the injection system - or both. Because of North American distributor Max Hoffman's allocation system, I don't believe there were ever more than a dozen tii models sold from that dealership in total during the '72, '73 and '74 model years - which may have further exacerbated any reliability problems. (Common technical problems can be diagnosed from a larger pool of similarly-equipped cars, the tii and it's idiosyncrasies included.)\n\nPersonally, and even though I was a member of BMW CCA (member #1974), I knew relatively few BMW owners and no one who owned a tii. There was no local club chapter. In the late 70s the first tii owner I met had purchased his car - an Atlantikblau '74 - used. As I recall, and despite the reliability of its aluminum runners, he eventually replaced the fuel injection system with twin carbs. And while that may be considered sacrilegious in 2017, it was not uncommon back-in-the-day. \n\nIn early 1975 I bought a new Amazonasgrun 1974 2002 (#4225509) and was treated well by the the folks at Williams. I would not be too concerned about it. In Europe I've seen several different patterns of fabric (twills or velour) mixed with vinyl as well as all vinyl the only way Hoffman spec'd them for the USA. FYG they still upholster cars in Europe that way now. Same goes for the bumpers. much nicer (and less effective) than the US spec tug fenders for the square years, but correct for this Euro model.\n\nThe car in person is every bit as nice as shown. At 1.63 Euro/liter it's expensive to drive.\n\nI don't understand anything about the fuel pump discussion. There is only one fuel pump in the tii and it sits tucked up near the differential where it gets exposed to the elements. The KF is an injection pump fed by said fuel pump and normally does not wear out or need any adjustment unless something unusual has happened.
