My understanding there were only 172 Marcos 3-Litre's with the Volvo straight 6. Apparently the Ford 3L V6 didn't meet US emissions in these years that was available in the UK. Marcos sent 80 manual trans GT's to the US but the cars were kicked out for also not meeting emission standards. Some of those came to Canada, at least 7 went to Edmonton where this one is from, and others were returned to the UK and converted to RHD for that market. Marcos was able to pass the the emissions with this engine in the US by hooking up a Borg-Warner Automatic trans to the engine. I always lusted after one since the C&D article that started with something like \"Gentlemen, lock up your daughters..\" implying that any young woman would fall at the feet of a Marcos owner. The dealer was looking for around $4,000 for it at the time. Nice condition and a fairly plain interior (I'd seen one in Hollywood outfitted with a tiger-skin interior in the early 70's.. it must have been a thing..)\n\nShould'a, could'a, etc.. at least back then I would have been able to enter and exit the car with some semblance of grace. 5 decades of aging on my part makes that highly unlikely today, my '09 Boxster is enough of a challenge. I do remember that the height of the Marcos roof was just about waist height for me - and I have a 27\" inseam.\n\nFor those thinking of swapping out the B30 - that was a direct descendent of the B20 Volvo engines, probably one of the most reliable and overbuilt engines ever put in a motor vehicle. I think the B30 was underrated at around 140HP at the time. The B20 put out an honest 110HP in a Volvo P1800.. 1/3rd more power would be 175HP or so for the 6 cylinder. Why one would want to replace it with a Triumph engine is beyond my understanding. \n\nThis does look like an outstanding \"project\" car - it's all there, waiting to be made running again. One could possibly fix the driveability on it fairly easily, then think about the cosmetics as time and money allowed. I got a cracking deal on it. Funnily enough mine was almost the identical colour to this from the factory but with Cosmic wheels. 10 days later I was run off the road by a motorcyclist and rolled down an embankment causing significant damage so I had the Marcos painted in gunmetal grey and changed the wheels to a set of Limmer 3 piece mesh wheels. These were the original Dr. Franz Limmer design \u201cborrowed\u201d by BBS for their now iconic mesh wheels.\r\n\r\nAt 11,000 km the nylon cam sprocket stripped its teeth and the Volvo B30 engine was definitely agricultural in nature - reluctant to rev and harsh. I spoke many times with Jem Marsh when he was reviving Marcos, suggesting he look at implanting the Rover Buick V8 which is what I would still do today. We were on the phone for almost 3 hrs last night. We were looking at pictures of the frame picture by picture. Concluded that the pictures showed numerous areas where the frame is rusted thru. I asked what the best way to solve it. I was told if I was going to do it I should take the car off the frame and get a new frame from England. They cost approx. $7200.+ shipping. If Larry was doing it he himself would rebuild the frame (since he has done it before.) The car I rebuilt 50 years ago I had a doner car with a good frame. The mechanicals are the easiest.
