These cars are such a delight to drive on the \"B\" roads. They have such an amazing ability to straighten out the twisties giving smiles all the way. The ride is very compliant with good damping and the steering feel is so good, Gordon Murray, designer of the McLaren F1 did everything he could to replicate the Elan's steering feel. You can steer with your fingertips. The gear change is like a rifle bolt. The brakes are far and away better than anything else of the period because they are well balanced 4 wheel disc brakes and the car is so light. \r\n\r\nThey are also surprisingly tough little cars. We used to pack the boot with camping and fishing gear and drive the dirt roads of the Colorado Rockies for fly fishing trips. I ran autocrosses, track days and long trips. But you need Webers for this much power and it looks like it was done right, it should really fly.\r\n\r\nAs much as I like my original Chapman signed steering wheel this Motolita is way more comfortable and pleasant on the hands. And it looks like an early one which were slightly nicer. \r\n\r\nDoor fit looks just a bit better than average for 1969. \r\n\r\nThe donuts looks like they have slight cracking, I might want to see how deep. They usually only fail in reverse or sometimes first. I like donuts but prefer the hybrid set-up with one Hookes joint (standard universal joint in US speak) and one donut. I would just be gentle with these until I have a better feel for their condition. And if it's your first Elan you will want to be learning how to drive more gently from day one.
