Regarding the tags - I purchased the car in VA in December from a dear friend who got the car at age 14 in Georgia to learn to drive (license at age 15). She drove the car throughout High School and when she went to college, Mom stored it in her garage. They bought the car from the original owner (their family lawyer) in 1982 and have owned it until Mom's passing last fall. The home was sold and she lost her storage opportunity. She reached out to me for help, and I ended up buying it just before Christmas. I have a clean MD Title, Registration, and Historic tags. Since I don't drive it and I thought the VA historic tags look cool, I left them on the car. The Police in my area don't hassle vintage cars, in fact they bid on them HERE. I've known the prior owner since 1992 and I occasionally worked on the car over the years. I have a huge stack of invoices/receipts and official documents back to the original purchase paperwork. There are also various spare parts, manuals, and trophies from Club car shows. The car has always been stored inside, well maintained, and used for club rallies, shows, etc.. The only thing that is inoperative is the fuel gauge (or sending unit) - I have not taken the time to figure it out. I believe the harness is original but everything else works consistently. In my experience, all you need to do is clean the bullet style terminals and apply silicone dielectric grease to keep moisture out and you will solve most of those Lucas gremlins. The factory connections were dry and tend to corrode. You can see the fusebox and the wiring harness in a few of the engine bay shots (images 21, 65, 68, 71). US DOT safety standards also affected the stainless steel trim, but I've seen Spitfires with black and with SS windshield trim in the same year range. Also a new top. I did not start it or drive it as time was a bit short and I needed to get my car home before the heat of the day really got merciless. \n\nThis Spitfire looks like a relatively inexpensive way to get a really cool old English roadster. It seems to have very few needs, if it has any.
