I also have a 1982 R100RT I purchased new in '82 and have rolled up just 13,000 miles on it. It too is a wonderful machine but the two feel different in many ways. The R75/5 is not an antique in my view (I have many machines decades older) but a true classic, and one of the easiest classic motorcycles to live with. When I got it oil looked perfectly clean and it was on a battery tender in his garage. The fuel was turned off at the petcock so I had to turn it on to make it start and it started right up. We change the oil to ensure it was fresh and checked everything out. All the lights work, turn signals, horn etc. are fully functional. All of the indicators on the dash work as well. I had a 1974 R75/6 that developed a high speed wobble. I checked the steering head bearings. Even replaced them. And checked the rest of the forks. Checked the swig arm bearings. And that tire the first and last time I had a shop replace my tires. These things are touchy but wonderful when correct. I had the suspension save my butt a few times. The fuel petcocks are the Everbest make and will leak if the cork in them are ever allowed to dry out. May leak any way. BMW had and probably still do have Karcoma petcock kits to replace them. Some of the very late /5s may have had Karcoma. I know I have seen early /6 with Everbest instead.
