Having lived with my SM and turning my own wrenches for a number of years I believe I have a plausible answer.\r\n\r\nMost cars have only one hood latch in the center but SMs have two. The location of the two hood latches can be seen in several pictures with the hood open. I found from years of experience that when closing the hood on SMs it was very important to place both hands directly over the location of the hood latches and gently press down on the hood with both hands until both latches are fully engaged. If the hood is closed by pressing down on the front center it is possible to not have both hood latches fully engaged and one corner standing slightly higher than the fender. I believe the seller might be able to confirm the above and possibly add a couple of pictures. \r\n\r\nI am located at the opposite end of the country and I have never seen this car but I must add that this car ticks all the boxes for me. Too many improvements were made to this car to even mention. It is obvious to me that this car was always in the hands of knowledgeable caretakers. In fact, of all the cars I've been fortunate to own, I've never got one of my old ones back. \r\n\r\nI had wanted an SM for decades, but it was more of a fantasy rather than a reality. I met the SM Guru, Jerry Hathaway about 15 years ago at a car show we were both displaying cars at. After chatting with him, he really made the idea of owning one a possible reality. \r\n\r\nFast forward to early fall of 2017 and I see Jerry at the French-Italian show at Woodley Park. He remembers me and asks me poignantly, \"Paul, are you ever going to own an SM?\" Being the consummate salesman, he mentions that he has his personal SM that will be available soon and invites me to come by his shop in Canyon Country to come by and see his shop/house and this car.\r\n\r\nThe car was really nice...better than I thought it would be. He explained that he worked at Larry Reed Citroen in Beverly Hills when this car was sold new and worked on it when new. The first owner was from Downey, CA. He traded it back into the dealership a couple years later and it was then sold to the next owner in Oregon, who was a close friend of Jerry. Jerry helped service the car by visiting his friend on a regular basis...basically house calls. He also would walk the owner's son through maintenance tips. Eventually, that owner passed away around 2013 and the family gave the car to Jerry. He went through the entire car and did all the cool tricks with the transmission, headers, etc. He updated the timing chains in the early '90s at 50k miles and then did the first adjustment in 2015 at 60k miles. He told me with these newer style chains, they only needed to be adjusted every 20k miles for an auto and 15k miles for a manual.\r\n\r\nI was ready to buy the car then and there and he explained that he wanted to do a major service, brakes, and a few other things. He told me to pick it up after Jan. 1st, 2018. My wife gave me a ride from Orange County on January 7th, 2018. She said that I was happier than even on our wedding day. I took some very cool photos with Jerry.\r\n\r\nAfter a year of ownership and a few thousand miles, I sent the car back to Jerry for another service and inspection. I took the train up to where he lives to pick it up. Jerry and I spent an hour together. He showed me his last project and then he would be done. Sadly, that was the last time I saw and spoke with Jerry as he passed away the following year.\r\n\r\nI had no intention of selling this SM as I really fell in love with it and made some great memories with it. However, in January of 2021, the current owner really wanted the car and I thought it was going to back to Europe. What a surprise to see it here after only a couple years and less than a thousand miles of ownership. All my friends sent me the link and egged me on to buy it. \r\n\r\nI really didn't plan on buying it as I paid quite a bit more for this car, put at least $10k into it during my care, and sold it for even more. I threw my bid in more to help inspire others. After I put my bid in, I walked away. You can imagine my shock when my friends start texting me congratulations. \r\n\r\nI don't know what the next adventures will be, but there will be adventures.
