The front license plate holder appears to be installed upside down, the black wheel centers are from the earlier TR6 (they should be silver) and the trim rings are supposed to be aluminum, not stainless steel. The BL badges are missing, the rear ride height is wacky in some of the photos, the top doesn't fit well -- look at the wrinkled side windows. It's either be put down improperly or the top isn't on right.\nMy guess is that is an older car with high miles that was given a decent driver quality restoration. I just noticed the big crease on the driver door from where the check catch was overextended and the door impacted the front fender. That's why the check catch is new on that side. Also noticed what could be nasty rust at the right rear lamp assembly (also looks like that assembly is new, note the white backup lens). Anyway, there's still solid potential here. It would be nice to know the results of a compression test, and then (if 135's or so) bid this as a solid project/driver and enjoy it. Dogleg rust is easier to hide and harder to fix, though. It tells you very little about a 40+ year old car, if only because the chances of a Smiths speedometer lasting that long are pretty small. Any car that age probably has had all ordinary wear-out parts replaced many times and may not have the original engine or trans, or at least they have been rebuilt, possibly more than once. And many parts (e.g. suspension bushings, which this car needs) wear out over time, whether the car is driven or not. Whenever anyone asks about the mileage on one of my cars, I ask, the mileage of what part, in particular? \n\nThe only thing important is condition. This car looks like a nice driver, that has been used quite a lot over the years. On further inspection, there were things that made me 99% sure it was my old car. When I got home I found an old insurance record and confirmed the VIN. I owned this car from 1995 to 1998.\nSo I can answer many of the ambiguities raised in the comments.\nI bought the car in 1995 (maybe 94) from a friend. He bought it in 1984 in Norfolk VA. I remember the paperwork had the car originally sold new at Webb Motors, in Roanoke VA. I called them at the time and they said they kept no records. Regarding the mileage, I don\u2019t remember, but I certainly would have remembered it being 20K. 80s seem to come to mind.\nWhen I bought the car, it was being stored in my friend\u2019s mothers garage. It had been taken off the road, do to an electrical fire. The dash was removed as a friend was going to refinish it. The dash was later returned unfinished and the glovebox door was lost.\nWhen I got the car I found that the a purple wire in the harness ( to the radio it think) burned up, through the harness, but did no damage to any other wires, and just burned outward laying the plastic insulation to the inside. I ran another wire to the radio and things were fine.\nI bought a new dash. That is solid teak, not the original plywood / veneer. I wanted a walnut, but it was too much money. The interior and seat kits I ordered from England, the best you could get at the time. The carpets had the correct jute backing. I did it myself. I put a new clutch in it, and replaced the tunnel with white fiberglass version.\nThere was one small rust hole in the whole car. It was in the B post area and a wave in the undercoating allowed road silt to accumulate. It was very odd, and put a small hole in the interior panel. I cleaned it up plugged it and let it go. Not a normal TR spot.\nWhen I got it going I found out it smoked. I did a leak down and found issues with #1 and #2. There were replaced core plugs, and I found out it had over heated at some point. I honed the cyls, replaced the rings, rod and mains, all std. The rocker shaft was trashed and I had the head redone. It ran great after that.\nNobody mentioned the Bosch Alternator. If I remember it\u2019s application it was a 76 Fiesta and dropped right in. I think the shaft OD was larger, so the pulley was modded or a similar of the same dia was used. It was cheaper and I liked how the brushes /reg were easily replaceable.\nThe fuel line was plugged at the 90 deg bend right below the tank. It will be cut and a length of rubber hose there.\nI replaced the windscreen and rubber. I found the 75+ front plate bracket at a parts swap and put that on because I always liked that, vs just a tag hanging there.\nI drove it to Morgantown WV and western VA ( where the diff input seal failed spewing hypoid over the hot exhaust) from Tidewater VA. From what I understand, they conducted all of the service on the vehicle for many years (including rebuilding the motor a few years ago).\u201d - Unless the seller meant it was in California MD for 20+ years, I don\u2019t see how this can be misconstrued. \n\u201cThe speedometer was recently rebuilt by Nisonger Instruments. The odometer reads 29K - but wasn't working when I purchased it. I am assuming it's been flipped over once.\u201d - I don\u2019t understand how the seller could misinterpret this as original mileage.\n\u201cThe car shifts very smoothly, with the exception of second gear. It's my understanding the the second gear synchro could be getting worn out. The only time this is noticeable is when you try to shift into second at a high RPM's. I tend to be easy on it when driving and all the other gears shift very nicely.\u201d - I missed slight detail in the current seller\u2019s description.\n\u201cThe heater core does not work and needs to be replaced (it was already disconnected when I bought it).\u201d \u2013note in the current sellers photos, the heater hoses are connected together and no mention of this in his text.\n\nAs I mentioned, the Maryland seller\u2019s description is very complete and the current seller, having bought the car based on this description would have had all of this knowledge. They have worked on many of my cars (I've lost count) and are currently restoring my 1971 Mercedes 280 SL Roadster that I had posted on BaT several months ago. \n http://bringatrailer.com/listing/1971-mercedes-benz-280-sl-roadster/\nThey do excellent work--on budget and on time--and I've never had a surprise with them. If something unexpected is needed on a car, they clear it with me first and give me an estimate. \n\nThey work on very high end Porsches and Ferraris and (I learned Friday) have done a few Triumph TR's over the years. \n\nI've purchased two cars from them and in one case, there was a minor issue which they stood behind and resolved to my satisfaction.\n\nThis car is on consignment and while I don't want to characterize Blackhorses position or feelings on this (not my place), suffice to say that they went with information told to them and they took on merit from the people who consigned the car. They showed me the title and indeed, it states actual milage. It would not surprise me if they were as (or more) frustrated as many of the commenters are (my opinion only).\n\nI was there Friday to photograph two of my personal cars that will be sold on BaT in the coming few days and looked at the TR-6 while there. The condition I feel has been accurately described in the description by them. If I were to own the car, I would fix the surface rust, paint the car, try to fix the separation on the drivers seat and I think that is it. I didn't drive it (again, I'm not a buyer) but it started instantly and idled well. I should note that my appointment there had no purpose with respect to the Triumph so my looking at it and asking to hear it run was more or less an 'ambush'.\n\nRegarding the dealer/owned cars. I am not a dealer. I caught hell here a few weeks ago because I was away from the computer for a few hours and didn't realize I had been asked the same question with respect to my 280 SEL 4.5 I was selling. You can look it up...sometimes, folks can have a ready--fire--aim approach and that is not beneficial to anyone, and certainly not the car or BaT who often gets stuck playing referee on these issues.\n\nI have just been asked to sell a 1930 Cadillac V-8 Victoria on this site by a close car friend. Friends of mine have seen the success that I personally have had here and are often asking me to help sell their cars. I'm not the owner of the Cadillac...I am not a dealer AND the paperwork is not in my name.
