The top could be chopped (or deleted, to make it a roadster) to keep things proportional, then to make it really interesting the body could be shortened to within about 6\" of the length of the back doors to make it a super cool S-Type 2-seater. Use all the trim and interior parts possible and rebuild the mechanical bits and bolt them into a newly built frame to fix the shell to. Fully radiused rear wheel wells would be a must too. If it's done right it would be a work of art and very fun and nice to drive. It won't be me to take something like this on, but something similar in about 10 years (God willing) would be a lot of fun. Timing of this sale is really not fair either to seller and potential buyers. It is worth it for parts, may it only be the tool kit and Nardi steering. And what about a collector who needs parts for his sunroof operation. Likely impossible to find these today, although I had never seen like this one before. Webasto roofs were the norm. Many more usable parts, but one has to have a need for it. Might be worth for the buyer to drive in with his tool box, strip what is needed and send the rest to recycling. Also amber turn signals which were non USA equipment.\r\n\r\nThe earless center lock hubs were in the parts catalogue for these cars; I owned a 420 (not to be confused with the 420G, the but the sports version) when it was more or less current and while it did not have the classic oval grill, it was a very similar car in many ways - and in my opinion these were very well engineered since they had the IRS suspension, disc brakes and smart looks.\r\n\r\nLet's hope this goes to someone who will find a place for this, or the sum of its parts. Instead, it may likely be a \"Golde\" sunroof (in German, \"Golde\" is or analogous to sun) since it is all metal, and would fit the vehicle's possible delivery to Germany or Switzerland.\r\n\r\nGolde developed this design in the 50's and was seen on many MB's, VW's, etc of that era and later. If you step back and ignore the current issues this vehicle has, these cars were stunning. Such nice lines. The stories this car could tell if it could talk. Cruising around in the Swiss alps. Done it myself. I predict that the winner of this auction will purchase it with the intent of restoring it - as they should. If they don't restore it, they should become the conservator of it and eventually pass it along to someone else who might have better luck. It is the conservators that really keep this hobby going.\r\nThis car is definitely restorable. Look at the positives - like it is complete. One could look at it as to whether it makes any economic sense. On the other hand for the vast amount of cars out there in similar condition, most make no sense either. If tomorrow the only cars that were restored, were ones that made economic sense to restore, this hobby would shrink by about 95% overnight. \r\nSo someone needs to step up and do the right thing. That said, these cars were in and of themselves unique since they were technologically advanced and had similar equipment as the E type.\n\nThis particular car is the rarest among the rare. It has the Golde sunroof (see my earlier post) and I forgot to mention earlier, not only the euro headlights but the driving lights and fog lights (where usually the position just under the headlights were blanked off with a round grille).\n\nWhat is somewhat humorous is that in the original Jaguar parts catalogue, a \"body tub\" had a separate \"BD\" number.
