The radiator cowl, on the other hand, does aid in engine cowling, er, cooling by directing air into the radiator while in motion. Again, many don't replace the factory reinforced cardboard cowl once it gets ugly looking and suffer no temperature related problems.\n\nHowever and according to a GT6 restorer up near Wake Forest, NC, once you drive in the rain for a decent length of time, you'll wish you had the side valances intact as the spray from the rotating tires will be all over the engine. According to him, the radiator cowl is something you definitely need. The radiator cowl is not expensive and widely available from the usual suspects, but the side valances will set you back a couple hundred.\n\nCredit to the seller for not trying to shoot around the glove back insert which needs some attention.\n\nAll in all, an extremely nice looking GT6 that is meant to be driven, an experience significantly helped by the 5 speed gearbox which is a worthy substitute for the factory overdrive. My opinion, based on owning LBCs with and without an overdrive, is it's the single most desirable option you can look for. There are signivicant differences. My car came with the early engine which I replaced with the later, that except for the piston stroke is identical to that in the TR-6. During many races including many Endurance type races of 6 hours or more duration, I never had an engine problem. Usually reved it to a max of 6500 RPM every shift.\nThe rear suspension as probably most of you guys know in the GT-6+ was much changed from the early swing axle (Spitfire) type. The picturs probably show which this car has but id didn't jump out in a quick look, which version does this have?\n\nMy racecar used the later suspension modified to use Datsun 240Z drive shafts, eliminating the prone to failure rubber doughnuts. Also used uphraded rear hubs as the standard ones would fail after a few races.\n\nTransmission was a weak point, replaced the countershaft every season due to fatigue wear at the front needle bearing location. There is a word or two to be said about the comments of leaving the underside unrestored: If I could get a dollar for each time I have looked at cars that has had the underside either coated or painted to cover up less than a sound structure, I would probably have enough money to bid on this car! Showing an honest car like seller is doing here is not a bad thing at all, and unless there are serious issues that needs attention, I leave my cars untouched and as original as possible on underside. It furthermore allows me to keep an eye on any trouble spots, whereas if everything is covered up, you may not notice until the red cancer has spread out to a larger area under the coating, - in particular if it is an airtight coating. Granted, I live in south Texas with no salt on the roads in winter time, and mostly drives my cars on dry days (although I have been caught in the rain from time to time). A different climate could certainly warrant undercoating, or if you want to have a show/trailer queen.
