Out of the box, there is no comparison BMW 02 vs 510. The 02 is solid, rattle free. More torque and power from the 2 litre vs. the 1600. The 02 came with 185 70 13\" tires, the 510 came with skinny bias ply white walls. I remember my mom ordering optional 165 70 13\" radials from the dealership for her 510 4 dr when buying one new. And if you are talking about a 2002 tii....forget about it...night and day. Having said all of that, never has there been a car that responds so well to simple mods as the 510 and back in the day, if you had an extra 500 bucks and an afternoon to bolt on Koni shocks, sway bars wider wheels and tires, headers and exhaust , dual carbs, etc. you could be having Bavarian meat sandwiches for lunch. This particular 510 looks pretty good if you squint when looking at it. For 1973 Datsun upgraded the L16 motor with bigger valves...some people say they just slapped an L18 head on the smaller motor. My dealer told me my 73 made 100 horses. Other \u201cofficial\u201d reference sources say 96 hp and that compares to the listed 98 hp made by the stock 2002. The best statistic is that I drove that 510 hard for a dozen years and it went to the junkyard with all its original engine and transmission parts and even the original clutch. It seems that the harder you drive a 510 the more they like it and I believe that characteristic accounts for the 510\u2019s success at the race track against some very good competitive marques like BMW. This looks like a nice car and well worth some restoration efforts. The original '70s wheels have the valve stem located in the rough cast area of the rim between the spokes with the valve stem pointing radially inwards. The new location shown here is much more user friendly. That said, these are still 30 yr old wheels. Someone obviously took real good care of them, and perhaps treated them with some old school \"Mag\" wheel cleaner.
