Not sold on the big Diamond wheels, either.\r\n\r\nThe painted-over door and hatch strikers, various painted rubber buffers and plugs, missing attachments for tail trim panels, and the badly deteriorated window scraper rubber (seen in picture 19) all give the impression of a quick paint job for resale. What was the original color? Glass out? Unfortunately i cannot help the buyer with a legitimate smog check as the carb conversion is a no go in California. The car was smogged earlier in the year when it was stock and has been registered in my name.\r\n\r\n@arne, First off let me say that i am impressed with your attention with these pictures. I have received and installed a complete rubber seal kit for the car. window scrapers were not included the kit but i have that as well and am tackling replacing them at this moment. The car was originally blue and was a glass out respray. i have a few body shop pics and will see about getting those up. i will take closer engine bay shots as well. Those are the cheapest oil filters on the market. Cut one open and you will see. A WIX is much better along with Napa also. The look is pure JDM and that is very popular right now with these cars. Smogging this in California is not gonna be easy. The seller asked me to submit my \"honest opinion\". I have extensive knowledge of these Z's having owned, built and raced them for over 30 years.\r\nThis car present very well. You will never be able to stop at a gas station without a conversation ensuing.\r\n It was 95 degrees when the seller stopped by my house and he had been driving for about 35 minutes. The car started right back up and the temp gauge sat right in the middle, even after a long uphill climb. The engine makes beautiful music and AFR gauge shows jetting is very close. A tad on the safe (rich) side if anything. 4 speed transmission shifts fine into all gears, clutch feels great. Brakes work fine, slight squeal, no pulling to either side. No excessive rattles, minor tire rubbing in extreme conditions.\r\n I found the turn signals, flashers, headlights, brake lights, running lights, windshield wipers, gauges to all be functional.\r\n Steering feels totally Z car normal. A bit heavy at slow speeds, but light once rolling.\r\nSeller went to great lengths to hide (tuck) not only the wiring, but also some hydraulic lines. This really gives the engine bay a clean look. Love it.\r\nThe modifications will not be to everybody's taste, but the owner did what he liked, as well he should. Different tires/rims and the relocation of the mirrors back to the doors would give the car a totally different personality at minimal expense.\r\nGround clearance is acceptable. Many of my cars scrape on my driveway. This one did not.\r\nA comment about no blank off plate being on the fuel pump casting is unfounded. This head would have had EFI on it so it would have had an electric pump. \r\nPlating some additional fasteners would make things look even nicer. \r\nIs this a Z car I would buy if i was in the market? While it may not be museum/investor quality, this kind of setup is done for pure enjoyment. I've owned a lot of cars and by far the z gets the most attention when I drive it. I've had kids hanging out their windows on the freeway with their phones out. I've been followed around town by other drivers in cars like vipers, Lotus, Porsches, Gtrs just so they could get a chat in with me about the car. This is going to be a fun car to own, period. Everytime I think about selling mine, I get in it, go for a drive and then come home and tell the wife how much I love driving my z. I wish I had room for another. Timing--the right buyer looking for that specific car at the right time, the market, work put into them. ie doing the rear control arms, and suspension work in general is a massive pia in these cars so if it is done for you, you are way ahead. These cars aren't super fast unless you dump 10k and upwards into the engine alone, but that doesn't matter. The drive of even a stock car is so visceral. The immediateness of the steering, the whine from the rear diff, the pop pop pops when you get off the throttle. You can't replicate that in many new cars (aside from maybe spending porsche cayman, or BMW M2 moneyr. Throw on a header, magnaflow muffler, set the timing right and it is so much fun to drive. I've been tempted to drop an L28T in my z because i do like speed like everyone else and my previous z had a 3.1 stroker which put it in exotic car territory for speed, but the longer I own it the more I want to just leave it as it is in NA form. I would say Miata, Porsche cayman come to mind as a good comparison for fun to drive factor.
