But an afternoon later, we'd installed the Chrysler's carpet (nice and thick) in place of the Dodge's rubber floor, the seats, and even the door panels. The interior is amazing, especially that deep-pile carpet. One way to tell that the low miles are original is to look at the cloth covering the door pillar on the driver's side...even on some low-mile cars, this cloth is the first thing to tear if the driver is not careful entering/exiting the vehicle. Once torn, the ugly fibreglass beneath is exposed. This one is perfect, on both driver and passenger sides! \r\n\r\nBack in the day, I drove the poor cousin of this car, a Plymouth Caravelle (Gran Fury in the USA). It rode and handled well and the 318 was smooth and reliable, if not exciting. Mine was also Nightwatch Blue, but had the velvet interior, and the cast aluminum wheels. \r\n\r\nThese are amazing, old school cars that really date back to the Aspen and Volare, sharing MANY of the same components, and the platform itself to a large degree. (If you ask me, Chrysler changed the rear styling of the car, and it went from the F-chassis to the M-chassis. Chrysler was always good at piggybacking platforms.) \r\n\r\nMine was a supreme highway cruiser, if a bit floaty. The 318 never gave a minute's trouble, except for the one time the electricks mounted to the air cleaner housing gave out. \r\n\r\nSome things I remember failing on my car that I wonder about on this car - \r\n\r\nMy door pulls became weak in the center, and literally pulled free from the door panel. This sucked, because I liked the hinged door pulls. \r\n\r\nThe electroluminescent opera lamps. Mine worked when I got the car, but the right side eventually failed. I came to find out that the parts for these things were pretty much unobtanium. Apparently nowadays you can get EL strips with an inverter and make them better than when the cars came out. \r\n\r\nSmall annoyances aside, this car ALWAYS was a hit with my friends. That dark blue car with the crystal hood ornament just SHOUTED \"Mafia Staff Car\", seemingly much more so than a black Cadillac or Lincoln for some reason. \r\n\r\nAlso, another memory tidbit - these things had the FASTEST power windows of the day. \r\n\r\n@Competitioncars GLWA, this is a really cool car, I wish I had space for it to bid. I am genuinely unsure if this was an inside joke of sorts between commenter and seller, but kudos for taking the time to break out a tape measure and actually film a video. What service. I have seen some commenters in auctions actually criticize others for inquiring about tire date codes, a very valid question as old tires would be an added expense to factor and also something to consider if planning to drive the car home after purchase. Windshield wipers were a first. No disrespect meant towards the commenter by any means by the way!\n\nI also admittedly had never heard of a vehicle not having entries on a Carfax until now. Always learning here. If a car gets registered, it gets entered into the DMV's system and that always in turn shows on the Carfax. Am I mistaken? I see a lot of reports that might not have a single entry for service because the owner may have done everything themselves or the repair shop just didn't enter it into the system, but they always have entries for state registrations. Which isn't very useful information since they don't list mileage or anything, but it's at least an entry.
