The Chief couldn\u2019t help overhearing the frisky conversation taking place between an elderly couple in the booth right behind him.\n\n\u201cDo you remember fifty years ago the first time we did the monkey dance leaning up against the fence between the Piggly Wiggle and the Ben Franklin?\u201d\n\nHis better half blushed and said, \u201cWhy of course i do! Who could forget that?\u201d\n\nHe scooted closer to her in the booth and said, \u201cWhy don\u2019t we recreate that experience, just for old times\u2019 sake?\u201d\n\n\u201cArtemis, you old devil!\u201d she whispered. \u201cSounds crazy, but let\u2019s do it!\u201d\n\nThe old couple took forever just getting out of the booth. The Chief and the Mayor watched them lean on each other and shuffle haltingly out the door and off in the direction of the Piggly Wiggly.\n\n\u201cChief,\u201d the Mayor said, \u201cyou better keep an eye on them and be sure they don\u2019t hurt themselves.\u201d\n\nThe Chief gets in the Nightmist Blue Custom 500 and drives around the courthouse square to the end of the alley back behind the Ben Franklin Far enough away to be discreet, but close enough to get there quickly in case of an emergency.\n\nHe sees the two of them fumbling with each other\u2019s baggy clothes and then passionately embrace. As they lean back against the fence, Chief Martin is confronted with the most furious round of animalistic coupling he has ever encountered.\n\nThe frenzy goes on for better than ten minutes. Both are shaking while making loud moans and guttural groans, giving in to the almost violent throws of prolonged passion. Finally, both fall to the ground in a rumpled heap of panting, wrinkled flesh, where they remain for the better part of a half hour.\n\nThe Chief feels as though he has learned something about life and growing old. And keeping the spark alive.\n\nHe watches them finally get up and dust each other off, straightening their rumpled clothes as slowly begin to amble down the alley towards the shiny new Ford.\n\nHe can\u2019t help himself. He has to know their secret.\n\n\u201cExcuse me. That was incredible. You must have had an incredible love life for the past half century. Is there a secret?\u201d he pleads with the old couple.\n\nThe old man is still shaking, hardly able to reply. Other than the 427 (too expensive for most agencies), Ford's next powerful engine in 1965 was the P code 390 police interceptor. It initially failed to attain the 130mph requirement, so the glass headlight covers were designed to help it meet it; they made the difference. The complete covers were available as an over the parts counter purchase for about $70. Ford made the covers available on 427 cars as a way to dispose of stock. Though part numbers were assigned to '66 covers, with the new 428 engine available, the covers were not required to meet the Michigan requirement. Xylene has an AKI value of about 112 as compared to 93 for pump premium. So blending 2.5 gallons xylene with 12.5 gallons 93 premium roughly provides 96 AKI. Some current octane levels I think are close to what premium fuels were in the sixties and seventies. My brother and I own an SK boat equipped with a 12.5:1 compression dual 750 Holley/Tunnel Ram 427 Chev and we've run it on pump gas for the last twenty years with no issues. When leaded gas went away thirty years ago we did add octane boosters but once premium level unleaded became available we've run it straight up with no problems. We have found the need to be a little more judicious with timing advance of course. And many modern cars run muscle car era compression ratios now but of course have fuel injection to keep everything in line. Mazda runs14:1 on some of their SkyActive engines. As long as this 427 has hardened valve seats run it on unleaded premium and listen close for any pinging. If it develops back off the timing a bit.
