The turbo brought the 2.0L diesel engine up from 67 all the way to 84 horsepower! All the turbo diesels came with the \u201cE Mode\u201d Automatic Transmission. In \u201cE\u201d the connection between the transmission and differential is disengaged when the accelerator pedal is released - basically it idles when you\u2019re not on the gas. \r\n\r\nI bought the car in need of a refresh. Smoking like crazy and poor compression. I pulled the engine and rebuilt it completely. Rings, bearings, head decked, valve job etc. Now it starts easily, doesn\u2019t smoke and runs really well. I also sent the turbo out for rebuild and the injection pump went out to Giles in Canada for a refresh\r\n\r\nIt had also a dented front drivers side fender and blemishes all over the hood. I was able to source a new old stock fender from Audi Tradition and them painted along with the hood. \r\n\r\nPlease don\u2019t hesitate to ask any questions. That\u2019s just the North America engine/trans lineup. But considering this car had a 0-60 of 16 seconds when new (compared to the Gasoline Turbo of 11) this car wouldn\u2019t fare well in modern traffic. When I was in HS and college (late80s/early 90s) I really wanted one but couldn't afford it, so instead talked a friend into buying a 5000 NA diesel which was a fabulous car. I always really liked the low cowl dash and the smoothness of the inline-5 - even in diesel form. Unfortunately for me I bought an \"around town and sometimes on the highway\" MB 240D 4-speed a few months ago. For those folks talking about it being too slow for modern traffic, it really isn't. My 240D does 0-60 in about 19 seconds with the manual, and yes, it's slow, but unless you feel a need to jackrabbit off every start it's just fine. Every so often it's a little sluggish on the hills. So what? That's part of it's charm. You just have to get to know how to drive it. This 5000 has had the right work done to make it a comfortable and reliable driver for a long time to come. I'm truly jealous of the winner of this one.
