The trans started out in second gear from a stop, unless you put your foot down hard. Then it would launch from first gear, and take off like a Saturn rocket. I got this from a guy in Wisconsin whose last name was Stouffer.. He used to have ads every week in the auto week paper at that time. Stouffer classics. Not sure of the spelling of his last name but he has some GT 40's and Rolls-Royce is in his barn, along with the bunch of other expensive vehicles. I picked it up during a blizzard and drove to Minnesota and then to Arizona. I had that car for several years and only had to put in a water pump, an alternator, and some tires. That was it..\n\nI sold the car to guy in Miami, Florida and unfortunately, when he took it to register i off t, he found out it was in the country illegally. According to him, the car was taken away and crushed. I could never confirm that happened..\n\nIn any case, I drove that car lot, and put a lot of miles on it and it was trouble-free. I've owned a lot of GT cars in the 928 is still the best if you going to drive it every day. I had a Maserati Ghibli for a while, I came up with was saying about those Itallian cars. \" Itallian cars and Italian women, they go like hell but they don't last long!\" I still wish I had them both. Now that I'm 71 years old, driving a CL500 Mercedes, I'm still trying to make a trade back to a 928, or even a Maserati Ghibli. My friend is a Ghibli with a small block Chevy and it has an automatic. This supercharged motor he has and it makes it a rocketship, but it just does not sound like the Maserati. It's almost impossible to find a decent 928 here in San Diego.
