This is the dark paint nemesis, and depending on the amount of swirling, has spoilt many a car's presentation. Providing that these are not deep and penetrate too far down they are mostly all removable using a specialized buffer and various levels of pads and cutter material - finishing off with with a wax-type polish. The process starts with claying the entire car to remove residue that cannot be removed even with aggressive polishing. While it takes a bit of practice (not on your prized possession...!) this process does work beautifully. The other thing that is initially required is a deep breath and good nerves. The test for these minute imperfections is to take a supermarket thin grocery bag (not the check out plastic bag) and put your finger inside and run both over the paint. If there are these deposits, you will feel them immediately. If you use just your finger, you will not feel them. Deposits are usually minute metalic debris, or brake lining dust or just about anything. Often occurs when cars are transported by open transport, or the enclosing container leaks. This car was equipped with a Girling Servo that was inoperative for many years. This was very evident upon teardown. I tried to rebuild it but found a small crack in the aluminum distribution block. Someone, in this car's past, overtightened a brake line. I was on a search for a replacement when I found a website discussing all the various brake boosters. Lockheed, Girling, PBR etc. The VH40 is one of the largest in diameter and more powerful than the original Girling. I felt, this would support the dual piston calipers up front and the rear drum wheel cylinders out back. I had driven thar car when I first bought her working through its various systems, saving the large brake overhaul for last. So, I had gotten used to the brakes, or lack thereof. Upon completion of the VH40 kit install, I almost got thrown through the windscreen when I applied the same brake pedal pressure I was used to applying. I can't speak to a comparison between the original Girling and the VH40 since my Girling was installed but asleep on the job. I can tell you the VH40 is a very good brake booster. Installation is quite easy too.
