Whenever I see one, it brings back memories of Mom's stories. My grandfather was born in 1901. Ran away to Paris Island as a teen to join the Marines in WW1. Afterwards he became a Ford mechanic in WV. He loved the beaches, so during the rugged WV winters they'd drive to FL for vacations in a '34 Ford. Mom and her older sister would take turns crossing their legs, sticking them through the bucket seats from the back to rest them on a box style heater in the front floor board. Grandfather later owned a Dodge/Chrysler/Plymouth dealership and drove many a fine car through the decades. He would take me on 9' wide back roads and drive as fast as he could, leaving the ground at times over the \"thrill bumps\". These were pre seat belt days, so imagine a wide-eyed young boy sliding around in the front seat. Talk about a roller coaster. LOL. Even more unique is the brake and clutch pedals hand crafted to make the throttle. \r\nThey were cut from a block of aluminum and fashioned to match the Ludwig design using a lathe and drill press. No newfangle CNC here. Case in point are the number if rods that are being bid at very low prices at the Mecom Indy auctions recently. I sold my \u201836 rod several years ago for this very reason. It commanded very high values then because of the premium build quality of the body, interior and new crate engine /tranny. I seriously doubt I could get half that price today? The market is falling. This example on BAT may be one of the top in its class that probably was priced correctly for this occasion in my view. I believe the seller knows the value of his rod but is confused with yesteryear\u2019s values.
