Took me awhile to figure out how to prop it up safely. The factory rod found in the bucket only holds the deck on one side which puts a twist on it when up putting a great deal of stress on the brackets at the front which can cause your fiberglass to crack around them. Also when you take the bucket out there is no way to hold the deck up. Kind of a poor design but not one that can't be solved. I found struts like on this car to put too much pressure on the deck when closing it and it will eventually start to crack. Remember there is nothing to these things. I solved mine by putting a lift on each side as found on my Spitfire trunk lid (boot), and my '65 'Vette front hood. I used the same urethane used for the windshield when I changed it to adhere a bracket to the underside of the deck. Clamped two more brackets to the rods that poke out under the rear quarters with the lift rod in between. Now you lift the rear deck and it clicks locked, lift up it unlocks and you close it. The seats were fixed on the S1. On the TC and TCS, Lotus lowered the seats to increase headroom and added a few inches of leg room. The seat is on a rail and can be moved reasonably far back. The interior height is similar to a Miata but the TCS has more leg room because the engine is behind the seats. I have an 11E shoe size and wear a diver's boot with a hard sole when I drive. Any driving moccasin works equally as well or any shoe that has a sole without a lip around the perimeter of your foot. It is usually the lip that gets caught on the pedals. I just drove from Sarasota, Fl to Ft. Lauderdale (200 miles) two days ago in my TCS and found the drive very comfortable. I drove between 70-85 mph and got over 30 miles to the gallon. The tank holds 15 gallons and is good for 450-500 miles of highway driving. My buddy who also has a TCS just drove his Europa from Massachusetts to Ft. Lauderdale this past August. Make sure the seat is all the way back. on the rail. You have to put your right leg in first, almost as if you were putting on a pair of trousers, Then after you are seated, put you left leg in. When exiting, do the reverse. Left leg out and while still seated, take you right leg out. Put your hands on the roof and pull yourself out. Ingress and egress is the same whether you are 5'7\" and 120 lbs. or like me, a Triple X shirt and 260 lbs. I drove my TCS over to my sisters for Christmas and let all of my \"large\" nephews (6'1 - 6'3\" 220-260 lbs) get in my car. All of them fit and were all shocked on how comfortable it was, once inside--especially leg room. This isn't a normal height vehicle where you \"sit first\" and then pull your legs around. In a TCS, the seat is about six inches off the ground; so if you sit first, your legs are at too tall of an angle. This is why you have to go in one leg first. If one is to lazy to\r\nsee if you are being ripped off, and willing to pay $130/hr\r\nto complete simple tasks, it is possible to run up any sum you\r\ncare to name. It doesn\u2019t mean you have added that value\r\nto the car. The owner apparently knew nothing about cars.\r\nPaying for 2 \u00bd weeks (102hrs is 10 days) labor to remove the\r\nengine and trans (two days in my shop), disassemble and\r\nmeasure engine (one day max), disassemble and inspect trans\r\n(1 day), road test and look at vehicle on lift (6 days?). I doubt\r\nthis makes sense to anybody who has ever done it. $13,325\r\nfor $4160 worth of work. If you take $(4160/13,325)X100,000\r\nit equals $31,220 which is about what most people think is\r\n reasonable. P.S. my good friend and mentor who did a lot of\r\nthe detail work on the Europa and all of the rear redesign on the\r\n47 said that the Europa has brake boosters because Chapman\r\ndid a \u201cdeal\u201d, not because the car needed them. I've seen, and driven, Europa's back when they were new. This is WAY beyond whatever came out of the Lotus Factory. The fiberglass work to smooth, and level body would have taken weeks. A leather interior is a nice touch. Yes, cloth only when new. But when you're going this far, leather is a touch of class greater. The engine is from not only one of the best, but perhaps THE best. I met Ted Wenz when he had his shop in Nyack, NY. He was a legend in the NE already. His knowledge of all things Ford 4 cylinder was staggering. He ended up being Joe Stimola's engine builder. He built SCCA Championship winning 1600cc FF engines. He built 2.0 liters for IMSA RS cars. And yes, Lotus Twin Cams was another one of his specialties. Atlantics had his engines. You can be assured that this engine has got HP with reliability. This is a case of you really do get what you paid for. Some have said they can do it cheaper. Let me know how many winning engines you have built. As for the Minilites, it is possible they are the real deal. Minilite is still in business in the UK. The reason I think they are real is I do not think anyone makes the 13 x 5.5 size. They have it in their catalog. Hopefully, we'll find out. This Lotus deserves to make some good money. I have seen the comments on prices and can only agree that they are on the high side, but...\r\n\r\nThe shop model used to be that we did regular repairs during the driving season. Clutches, brakes, electrical repairs and regular servicing were the mainstay and very profitable. Major overhauls and \u201crestorations\u201d were reserved for winter when the shop was slow. They were time consuming and usually done at a break-even level of pricing. It allowed you to keep your skilled and trained staff busy and not have to lay them off in the slow periods.\r\n\r\nThings have changed now. Cars are restored and usage plummets. Cars that did 10k to 20k a year are now now toys that cover at most now cover only hundreds of annual miles. All the steady, profitable work has slowed to a trickle and many shops have closed their doors or moved on to more current vehicles.\r\n\r\nNow a shop specializing in these cars has to focus more on time-consuming restorations. They are not \u201cslow-season\u201d filler but the mainstay of the business. Pricing had to go up.\r\n\r\nIt sounds as though the shop involved here is fairly high end. I\u2019m guessing they don\u2019t just strip cars, fix them and put them together. They probably carefully document the car\u2019s current condition, extensively research how it should be \u2014 not an easy task with most low production vehicles \u2014 and label and catalog everything as it is disassembled.\r\n\r\nThis a far cry from diving in with a set of impact tools and changing a clutch in a third of the book time. \r\n\r\nRestorations used to mean a paint job and an engine refresh. That\u2019s no longer the case anymore either.\r\n\r\nThis car has been very carefully worked on by skilled techs to a high standard. Could it have been done quicker and cheaper? Sure!
