Mine was similar... 1971 in Classic Copper with dark vinyl top... same buckets and console, but with the 350-2bbl. Honestly, that was enough for this 16 year old. It was the car I came home from the hospital in, and the first car that I drove to High School. I didn't need to to also let it be my last car. I was a very young looking teenager and frequently when I passed by a waiting police officer, I soon got a tail... but never got pulled over for moving violation (even till today). \r\nI learned later that the reason it took so long for me to Turtle Wax that hood was that it was one of the longest ever produced in Detroit... over 6 foot! That Classic Copper was really beautiful when waxed... kind of a Candy effect with the metal flake and those curves. It really was a neat expression with the \"Hips\" and \"Shoulders\" in the rear and front quarters respectively.\r\nFor you NASCAR fans, note the extra long cowl behind the radiator... This Chevy model was planned like that for the races... the engine was set back farther to improve the F/R balance for competition. This did have the consequence of a smaller back seat area... but a small back seat designed in the '70's was still more comfortable that a roomy one in my modern 4 door. :) I could fit most of the girls from the bus stop in, even if there weren't enough seat belts to be legal. (At one point, my bus stop was me-the only guy, and 12 girls)\r\nThis looks like a nice fairly original / correct specimen, and will be an enjoyable ride for somebody who can appreciate it. No, the \"Door ding tape\" wasn't likely to be on the options list, but was a common addition to cars back in the 80s'. Hope it is just tape, and not drilled in like commented below.\r\nThe 402 is a nice option, and it was nice to seen the collective wisdom comment on the HP ratings and such. My '71 listed 245hp on the air cleaner cover (that you could flip upside down for a better sound, but it was dish shaped, and left a ring impression in the under hood insulation). I did scrounge a flat air cleaner cover from the salvage yard to avoid that.\r\nI do cry a tear when I see the original AM radio gone... I had many hours listening to the local \"Oldies Station\" when Oldies were 50's and 60's... with the occasional '40's thrown in. An awkward moment came when I pulled in the driveway and parked next to my mom and her best friend when they were outside and she happened to be a Nun, and I had the windows down and radio blaring \"Devil with a Blue Dress On\". Felt like I had to go to confession, even though Sr. Monica Mary was more hip than most High Schoolers I knew.\r\nThe car was super dependable, even under the right foot of a young teen... only real issue I had was that the choke / high idle design on this car (at least the 350) was a bi-metalic strip coil (Like the old style home thermostats) bolted to the intake manifold, with a rather ineffective sheet metal housing, and in my climate (Wisconsin) when it was cold, the idle was high... It was an automatic cruise control sometimes set at high as 35MPH. On our snow covered roads, it was too easy to lock the front tires, while the rears (It was an automatic) kept pushing. This floor console was really a boon to the driver as it was easy to just knock the gear lever into N when stopping, and back to 3 when time to go. It was most challenging when stopping on a snow glazed road... and still pointing up hill (lots of Kettles and Moraines / Eskers left from the glaciers)... was getting going again when the cruise was set to 35 on ice looking uphill in an automatic. Given this is in Texas, I suppose that is less of a problem.\r\nThis '72 still has all the right chrome -Under the trunk, grille and front bumper, hood ornament etc. I cannot see from the photos, but one interesting detail of the 70-72 was that the badge around the trunk lock was not present on the '70, but it was on the other two years. In '71, the badge had 1971 represented in Roman Numerals across the top MCMLXXI. The later '72's just had vertical bars in that area (IIIIIIIIIII), but many of the early '72's had the left over '71 badges on them. @aldierk could check to see which is there... the printing is small, but back when I was young, with better eyes and waxing the car frequently, I could see such things. \r\nOh, and the ceiling mounted 2nd seat belts that were \"paperclipped\" up when not in use. So inconvenient for the uninitiated, but I used them all the time.\r\nLove the beauty rings and center caps on the Rally Wheels!!!
