Yes this built in 1958 would if sold a month after it was shipped to the US would have been titled as either a 1958 or1959 depending on the dealer and the state it was sold new in. This is easily corrected at your local DMV. If this car needs a complete bumper to bumper major service including a new clutch and reseal of the trans figure 5k to 10k to do this depending on the actual needs of the car. Again a small price to pay to get a low mileage, very correct, very original, 5 owners from new, rare, beautiful, extremely desireable, Jaguar. Cars like this are VERY HARD TO FIND!! I believe it was either the last 2 weeks of July or first 2 weeks of Aug. The car was sold as a model year of that year. Production after the vacation break was sold as the next model year. My 150S has a build date of Sept 1958 and was sold as a 59. If I were selling I would call it as it really is, a 1958 car for vintage purposes. Also my VIN is T831434DN which looks correct related to the sellers VIN.\r\n(140mph speedo on a 150)\r\nThe original XK was given the model name XK120 because it was capable of doing 120 mph. Later models were not named in the same way but were simply advancements by number. Many thought the 150 could do 150mph but Road and Track Mag managed 137 mph on a test track. Jaguar never represented the cars XK140 or 150 based on speed but many thought so following the XK120.\r\nI believe this car has had a major renovation/paint some time ago. The interior is good but must have been replaced at some time. The carpets and leather simply don't last 60+ years and look like this. Look at the condition of the small tonneau cover behind the seats. It is likely original and shows considerable wear, tears etc. It would be nice if the seller could show pics of it extended.\r\nThe engine area shows some non factory mods such as the header tank for the cooling system and a non factory distributor cap. It has been at least partly rewired as the fabric covered plastic insulated wire was not used by Jaguar. \r\nThe body has been repainted for sure as they coated right over the rubber bumpers for the spare tire lid and rubber bumpers for the bonnet were never on the body of the 150.\r\nIn my opinion the car is perfect for a \"concours\" restoration or as a very good \"driver\".\r\nI agree with JohnStrader. There was a coolant leak that caused quite a bit of white smoke, but as noted a new valve and tubing were installed and I\u2019ve had no issues including on an all-day charity ride in upper Michigan. \r\nAs for the \u201cgrinding\u201d while downshifting, that occurs only when downshifting from 2nd to 1st and it appears that the timing is slightly off. My practice is to slightly accelerate once in neutral to get the timing right and I can then smoothly downshift into 1st. No such issues when downshifting to 2nd or 3rd, nor when upshifting. My mechanic examined the gearbox and said that I\u2019d be fine for 10 more years with as much (little) I\u2019m putting on the car and that there are no imminent issues. This one was extremely well preserved but didi receive some \"attention\" over the years, which is normal, but as looked well done. To restore any OTS like this one, the \"investor\" has to be ready for nearly 1500 hours for 150K reno cost + purchase cost. The major investment is in time, not supplies, unless major body sections need replacing. \r\n\r\nIn our modern world, an \"S\" car does not mean much in performance per se as any Subaru WRXor even a Honda Civic will outpace it in a breeze. That is not where the pleasure residesanymore.\r\nIt's relative scarcity has value but more important, this example had its well preserved/maintained correctly condition that represented the best gamble. The low for an SE was 67K (4/19) and the high was 250K (12/17). \r\n\r\n\"Values\" depend on time and place, condition of car, history and those willing sellers and buyers. \r\n\r\nI personally think the market is figuring out where to go next with uncertain world economic conditions. Remember these cars, we love, are not essential. Their prices are reflective only on our moods. I think that the recent sale at Bonhams' at the Greenwich Concours is a good bellwether - 117K including commission for a #2. But, that's just me, at this moment in time. \r\n\r\nAsk me tomorrow and I may have a slightly different answer - especially if someone had bought this car for something else. And, finally regarding this car; at a point in time a willing buyer was willing to pay 130,000 plus $5000 commission to own this car. So, that was the value at that moment in time.
