Since in this car's case the coil has been upgraded to a Bosch Super, this car has a regular ignition switch. \n\nA bit of SAAB trivia... in 1964, the theft-prevention device changed - the ignition lock required the car to be put in reverse before the key could come out. The reason for the key being on the floor in the 99 and 900 models from 1969 and later is that this mechanism in conjunction with the shifter had to be in close proximity to the shifter which was now on the floor and not on the column. Got it towed to Utica where I got a dealer-installed new engine for $250. As darkness was falling approaching Kennebunkport, there in the middle of nowhere was a SAAB dealer located in a small farm-like setting. They quickly determined the radiator was - and had been - losing water thru the lower connecting, where the cooling hose was knocked askew and was dripping. THAT had happened when, before this trip, another dealer in Columbus had replaced rusted-out brake lines that ran right under that connection and knocked it loose! That's when I learned that slugs of air in the cooling system calls such temp gauge fluctuations.\nMy practice was eight gallons of gas and a quart of the cheapest 30wt oil I could buy.
