First, only a masochist restores a 190SL when there are hundreds of better-restored ones for sale for half the cost of a proper restoration. The original 190SL was just a marketing ploy, riding the coattails of the 300SL. It had a three-main bearing engine. It was heavy. Its sole race \"win\" in Hong Kong was a fluke. Mechanics tell me they are hell to work on, and they cost a fortune to restore. Having messed about with Mercedes-Benzes for over 50 years, I (and many others) rank the 190SL as one of the worst cars Daimler-Benz ever sold. Maybe the bubble has finally burst. Maybe all those poor suckers who thought they could buy a 190SL as a cheap 300SL finally learned. Having said that the car is available \u2026\r\nAs Frank Barett is concerned, no one that buy or sells a 190 SL pretends anything, it is what is is and no one assumes that it is a 300sl wannabe. The 190 sl was indeed a classy sports car at an affordable budget when the gullwing and the roadster were out of reach for most of the buyers.\r\n50 years later the story remains the same.
