The tune just leaves the injectors on too long to get more fuel in. But there is only a tiny amount of time to inject in a diesel until you're just spraying fuel into a fire on the power stroke. On the power stroke the temperatures inside the cylinder are dropping as heat energy is being converted into mechanical energy (torque) so the fuel doesn't burn completely and is blown out the tail pipe as black smoke (wasted fuel, energy, money). Granted the 6.5 is a boat anchor but who is using a H1 to tow that is stupid. Sucks they're running a part time T-case which isn't a predator unit it's just whatever came out of the Silverado they got the drivetrain from probably a nv271. These trucks were never meant to be part time the rear diff is the exact same as the front diff and they're not especially strong. Aluminum case AMC20 diffs which are effectively a Jeep CJ rear diff flipped upside down. Now imagine putting a Duramax in front of that.
