A rare find to be sure, but in this condition, air conditioned with a V8 engine from Buick, a manual transmission, \u201cET\u201d style front headrests and finished in a great period color, it is quite a temptation! This P6 was a company car for the Porto, Portugal office of the German Ball bearing manufacturer (Fischer's Automatische Gussstahlkugelfabrik). The dealer in Portugal that sold the car to the current owner knew the car in his youth, as his friends' father worked for the company and drove the car for years. Mileage is believed correct as Portugal requires bi-annual testing and the mileage is noted. The current owner purchased the car from the dealer in Portugal and imported it to the US. He took possession of it in November of 2018.\n\n @Carawagon - the owner is quite meticulous. The car is in great shape. Everything is in good working order, even the clock. The only exception is the cassette player in the period Blaupunkt radio - although the radio does work. The tires have 2013 date codes. Also, the plastic cover for the battery compartment has some cracks in it where the hold-downs are. There are no rust issues that we\u2019ve come across. As for the Montana registration, the car exempt from California emissions being a \u201972 model - it was simply easier to first title it in Montana. \n\n @kmacleod You are correct - the car has a vinyl interior. In fact, the marketing literature for the car described it as \u201cventilated box-pleated Ambla material\u201d. I didn\u2019t catch the leather mention in BaT\u2019s write-up. In fact in 1977 I actually accidentally my 1967 one to the test. I had been working @ a shop in Miami for 2 days straight and gave a body man a ride home to the south towards Homestead around 4AM or so. After dropping him off and heading back to US 1 I noticed the light turned green for me about 1/4 mile before the intersection. Knowing it would be of short duration b/c everybody would have precedent going north/south on US1, I gunned it from 2nd to 3rd gear, setting up a \"cut the corner\" direction because of my speed. Unbeknownst to me - or I had forgotten because of my lack of sleep - there was an elevated Railroad track crossing about 50 or so feet before the intersection which unsettled everything and just b4 the apex I noticed I was heading to the \"neutral ground\" between the North and Southbound US 1 lanes which consisted of concrete about 6-12 inches high!! Well there was nothing I could do except let off the gas, not brake, and ride it out. As you could imagine a huge KLUMP KLUMP happened bursting both front tires and I ended up at the side of the Northbound traffic. Curious thing is there was a Mobil gas station right behind me, so I turned the ignition back on and lo and behold, the idiot lights came on. I said I gotta get outta here and cranked her and the oil pressure light went out like always and she fired right up. I reversed into the station and inspected the damage. The right front Mag wheel was toast, bent to all hell and the tire had a huge sidewall burst. The drivers side had a small wheel indention. I jacked it up, took it off and beat the bead back with a 5lb mini sledge hammer and she held air!!! I put the spare -full size they were back then- on the passenger size, and drove home to get some sleep!!! The funny thing is @ the Mobil station there was a man calmly hosing down the concrete throughout the whole episode, somewhat in the cars line of travel, who saw everything happen in real time! Crazy guy didn't move an inch!! I guess he knew he was not in harms way. About a year or two later I drove that same Rover cross country to California with no problems. With a short stint living in New Orleans where I took it to an alignment shop and it still was within spec!!\r\nI would always take a spare condenser with me b/c you couldn't trust Lucas electrics. When I felt it missing I'd just pop the cap and put her in and go on my way. That was just one of the fond memories of this car! As a final note, the manual reserve switch to the left and below the drivers seat saved my ass when I was moving to New Orleans after Hurricane David! I know it's only a couple of gallons but it got me farther than I expected until I - and about 50 other cars - found a station that actually had gas and working pumps!
