Since this is my main motor tour car, I got tired of it, and had the engine removed to get the leaks fixed. Engine had been out years before when the PO did the top end.\n\nAnd how about the 930s? F-car owners on the average spend more on service because they are willing to spend more, and some actually consider it a badge of honor. There are lots of higher mileage Ferraris with normal owners who do their own work on normal schedules. Many of the parts (sensors etc.) can be cross-referenced to BMW part numbers and bought for 10% of the price. You can maintain a Ferrari for fairly reasonable costs if you work at it. Keep in mind that this is a 30 year old car. A big part of the reason that many of these cars have major service at low mileage is that they get driven very little. This car has averaged 1000 miles per year! (Show me a 30 year old Honda with only 30,000 miles on it) After ten or twenty or thirty years you DO need to change belts, hoses, sensors, etc. on any car, regardless of how low the mileage is. Here's a list of modern Ferraris that need the engine out service to change the cam-belts. Just removing and reinstalling the motor is is 15-21 hours -- and that's before the actual service starts. If you're looking to buy any of the cars listed below, it's not uncommon for major services (every 3-5 years or 30k miles, whichever comes first) to be $10k or more -- if nothing else is discovered in the course of the work. This cost needs to be factored into your purchase. Anyway, here's the list:\r\n\r\nMondial T\r\n348\r\n355\r\nF40\r\n365 BB\r\n512 BB\r\n512 BBi\r\nTestarossa\r\n512TR\r\nF512M\r\nF50\r\n\r\nThe 308s, 328s and 360s do not need to have the engine removed to change the timing belts and none of the front engine V12s need to have the engine removed for the belt change. Some mechanics like to remove the engine to do a timing CHAIN replacement on the 365 GTC/4, 365 GT/4 2+2, 400, 400i and 412i but it can be done with the engine in. \r\n\r\nThey aren't economy cars. Warm up the engine for XX seconds before moving, then go slowly in 1st gear for a certain distance, a little faster in 2nd for a certain distance, and so on. A 2000 HP drag racing engine gets rebuilt after each 3 second run, and a track raced Ferrari will chew through parts like any other racecar, but a street driven Ferrari that sees 1000 miles per year slowly down the boulevard doesn't need a major service each year. As others have commented, long warm up cycles are a real necessity due to large volumes of engine and transmission oil and heavy duty parts that take time to get warm, though synthetic fluids work wonders to cut these times down too. Belts and bearings and seals just don't wear that quickly when these cars are street driven by us old guys who are the majority of owners. Check it thoroughly, listen carefully for issues, but if you are driving low mileage at reasonable road speeds there is just no reason for an engine out service and new belts and bearings every year, or even every three years. Mine is white with the same red interior. It was my first exotic car. In that time I have done two majors services - one at purchase that included a clutch and one in 2014/15. Other services needed - all done in my own garage with my own hands - during that time: Fluid changes, new tires, rotor resurfacing, HVAC switch (cross referenced to a $40 Dodge part) and new brake pads (the originals had begun crumbling). Oh, and I also had the AC charged twice. The car has never left me stranded and never not started. My wife and I have driven it from MD to Asheville NC, Pittsburgh for the vintage grand prix multiple times, Richmond, several weekend trips to WV mountains, and countless trips up into the SE PA area for extended rally drives. The TR just plain rocks! On many rally drives other owners of newer cars (Ferrari, Porsche, 'vette, etc) comment on the car's ability in the twisties. (I wish I could claim it was my talent and abilities but the car just plain loves the twistie bits.)\n\nDid I just get lucky and get one that works? Did others get unlucky and get a \"Friday\" car? Or are many just spreading the here say? I am betting on the last option. I know several long term owners and they all have had a similar experience to me - solid reliable fun car. \n\nUnfortunately they were not a favorite of the collectors for a very long time. Many got into the hands of people who did not keep up on maintenance. It was a great idea to buy a Ferrari until they realized that buying the car was just the price of admission - servicing it could become expensive. So they sold it when a service was near. The next guy bought a cheap Ferrari and did the same thing, further delaying maintenance... This car on offer is certainly NOT that type of car. Just look at it. It was enjoyed by its previous owners - not abused. If it was presented with only 5K miles, the same talking about high mileage would be b!tching about how it is a crime a car like this wasn't driven and they would drive the p!ss out of it. You just can't win. The TR is polarizing. With the TR you either get it or you don't. I get it and am so glad that I got it when I did.
